Yeah, I didn't update mine until sometime last year.  The big meter screen is nice.

Could be even better if the meter range went lower (I'd make the displayed range user adjustable), and if setting/erasing markers worked while in that screen mode.

sync'd two R-44's the other night.  when using the prerecord function, there was an instant 1.5 or 2 second difference in clocks.

i turned the prerecord off both units and it was synced perfectly.

Since I'm into confessing my sins this snowy Spring morning, I missed this tip, too......by a few years.

Thanks justink, turning off pre-record did the trick last weekend.  :coolguy:

Did you use the Digital (coax) port to sync them or the 1/8” jack?

I just updated the firmware in an older R-44, and in the process, re-read my posts from 2014. Two corrections/updates to what I wrote then (I've also gone back in time and edited what I posted back then):

- The ZIP file is now on https://proav.roland.com/global/support/by_product/r-44/updates_drivers/ . If you go to www.roland.com and try to find support for the R-44, you will probably become very confused.

- The folder containing main.bin should NOT be copied to the card (and that folder's name has been changed, evidently); rather, the main.bin file itself, alone, should be copied to the card's root folder.

The ZIP file has nice, illustrated instructions for both (a) checking the firmware version that you have now and (b) updating it, if what you have is lower than 1.21.

Ok, late to the show...

Before I reach out to our resident cable makers, is there a cheap cable available out there that would connect the TalentCell 12v batteries to the R44?  I assume these have reverse polarity like the UA5 I had back in the Pleistocene?

Yes. Center pin -, sleeve +.

I also need a cable to power R44 with a TalentCell, so please let me know what you find.

Radio Shack Adaptaplug. You can find the correct tips on ebay. I believe you would need an M and N tip.

Apparently RadioShack website still works.  Haven't gone to check out yet though...

I just grabbed the Talent cell as well to power the R44 and Aerco together. R44 is m tip.  It appears the 12v connector is an N-tip.  Would the 9v out be 'M' then?

https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-adaptaplug-n
https://www.radioshack.com/products/radioshack-6ft-power-cord-for-adaptaplug

Went ahead and ordered two cables.  One M > M, one M > N.  $24, free shipping.  Not bad.  If you use a VPN and say you're in DE or NH, you won't pay taxes.   >:D
