Small mic case to hold pair of Schoeps?
« on: September 24, 2016, 07:47:48 PM »
I am looking for the best solution to carry my pair of cmc64s to gigs.  Case should be padded and fit just the two mics - no clips, etc.  needs to smallish, like 7x4x2" or so.  I am considering the cigar caddy 3400.  Is there a good solution that you have found, or recommend? Thanks.

Yup.  2-cigar case is perfect.

You can find boxes like this on eBay:

The small ones are 5x3x1.5.
The large ones are: 6.5x4x2

I'm not sure if that is outside or inside the box. They are said to be water resistant but I doubt it.

Perhaps not what you are looking for. The shape of the foam is not optimal for mics. But if interested, search eBay for 'Plastic box', and you'll find boxes in several shapes and sizes including these.

I have these exact cases, and while they are PERFECT for holding my caps/collettes, they are NOT big enough to hold cmc6 bodies + mk4 caps :(

I would go with a small Pelican 1020 or something with the Pick n Pluck foam, or that small Cigar Caddy if I were you ;)

Thanks water!  That looks perfect!  I got the cigarcaddy today, and it is a nice little case, though it needs a bit more foam on top to help secure the mics -they are a bit loose in there as is.  I think I'll just spring for the echoes case.  Didn't know they offered that...duh.

This is $5 at any Walmart or sporting goods fishing tackle isle.  It is solid, waterproof, and has 3 locking clasps.  I went a few isles over to get some pipe insulation ($1.99) and cut to fit.  Works bomber and is much lower profile that the Pelican boxes.

Y'all over think things too much. I use a basically $0 "case" that has lasted for years.

I probably should renew the bubble wrap though since it is pretty much just plastic after 10 years.

I use the Cigar Caddy 3140 - hold two SDC mics just fine. I have 4 of them, they work great, and are waterproof. I cut out a little piece of foam at one end and put a small disposable dessicant bag in the hole, then store the mics with the capsule next to the dessicant. The only problem I've found is the latches can sometimes come out of the grooves in the case, just when you least expect it. If you lose one of those latches, the case is useless. A drop of superglue on each latch, and voila! no more problems. The Pelican 1030 case looks like a good option too. I doubt the bubble wrap option is waterproof  :hmmm:

What is the "echoes" case?

hot licks > microphones > recorder

I do not stow my gear underwater.  ;D The only times they get exposed to water is when I am using them. Condensation at late night festivals, as well as rain, can be a bitch. If I zipped up the baggy, I am sure I could dunk them in a bucket of water, without water getting in though.

3 even better.  One for the road after the show.

I've got a couple of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Cigar-Caddy-Waterproof-Travel-Humidor/dp/B0007VU67O
one I drilled the ends out and keep my VM44 bodies in with a short pair of XLR's plugged into and then can use the active cable /collettes  while the bodies and connectors are protected.
