It looks like the disposable Energizer AA are popular, but I wonder about rechargeable Li-ion AAs.
My limited research has found that Panasonic OEM or rebranded cells -- referred to as 18650 -- are giving good results. But these results seem to be for flashlights.
Might they be good for our purposes? They're certainly more expensive. But the lightweight and possibly extended runtime has my interest.
Does anyone run Lithium rechargeable AAs?

Not only the sizes are different but also the nominal voltage differs! Non rechargeable AA = 1.5 V; rechargeable AA / Ni-MH = 1.2 V; rechargeable 18650 / Li-ion = 3.7 V IIRC.
Of course others specifications may be of interest: charging voltage and time, fire hazard... to name a few.

Thanks! After posting I did more research and found out that 18650 cells are NOT equivalent to AAs. I got excited for nothing, it turns out. It looks like there are AA Li-Ion batteries that adjust to 1.5V, but they're expensive and except for a lower weight, don't seem to perform as good as some of the Ni-MH AAs out there.
And I had come across a nice post that shows how the Ikea rechargeable AAs -- the ones that read "Made in Japan" -- do very much appear to be relabeled Panasonics. I'll def pick up a pack next time I'm at Ikea. (Of course every time I'm there, I swear it's my last).

I wish I had known about them before buying Eneloop Pros. Excellent batteries, and at the price Ikea is charging, a true bargain.

I went out of my way and drove an hour to ikea and they were out of batteries.
