Shure A27M adapter for mic stand...
« on: March 29, 2004, 09:05:27 AM »
Hi,

I recieved a Shure A27M vert bar and am wondering what the thead diameter is inside the bottom of the bar.  Is the bottom 3/4 or 5/8 inch?  Does the bar normally come with an adapter?  I believe my mic stand has a 3/8 inch thread and am trying to figure out where I can get the right adapter.

ok..i have a manfrotto stand so i think the thread is 1/4 inch so I'm guessing i need to go from 5/8 to 1/4

I may do that.  That's where I got the vert bar from initially.  Just wish I knew there was extra stuff I needed to order.

This is the adapter I believe I need...assuming the vert bar is 5/8 inch.

I currently have an AKG bar with an adapter that connects to the mic stand.  This connector I assume is not 5/8 since it looks too small for the vert bar.

FYI, the adapter pictured won't help you get from your 3/8" thread to 5/8".  That particular set of adapters is to take you from a 5/8" stud to a 5/8" thread (and also supports 3/8" thread as well, I think).

We know your Shure bar is threaded 5/8"-27.  You need to find out exactly which thread/stud size your stand/clamp is to ensure you get the proper adapter.

Take the adapter off the AKG bar. it's 5/8 as well.

EDIT* Make sure the adapter is not 2 pieces on the AKG bar & your leaving one of them on the bar.

Most any music store that sells mics will have 3/8" to 5/8" adapters.....actually they will give them away as they still come w/ many mics yet are rarely needed.  A decent camera store will sell a 1/4" to 3/8" sleeve for $1 or so!

I've been looking for these adapters and they are not stocked by most camera or hardware stores, nor do they cost $1.  The 3/8" to 5/8" is common.  However, the 1/4" to 5/8" is not.  I checked with a bunch of camera stores in Atlanta and non had one, or even knew what I was talking about.  B&H Photo, which stocks all kinds of pro photo and audio gear, has a 3/8" to 5/8" adapter for around $4.  Dale Pro Audio has the 1/4" to 5/8" for $15.

You put the two pieces together
1/4" to 3/8" - Sold at Camera stores for $1.00
3/8" to 5/8" - Mic salesman have these to give away

I know I'm glad I spent a $1.00 on the junk instead of $15.00 plus shipping......

Thanks all for the help.  There was an adapter that was practically welded to the akg bar..i removed it with about an hour of struggling and it is 5/8 and fits the vert bar fine.
