Looking for a way to build a little tray on my stand
« on: May 24, 2006, 02:27:48 PM »
Anyone have any ideas for how i can build a little tray to clamp to my stand for my battery box (giant squids) and my md recorder?  they are both pretty small...something the size of a cd case would work great...i want it to have some depth too so things dont slide off...

anyone have any ideas?

i really appreciate any advice!

bogen super clamp:

L bracket shelf holders:

You can make your shelf out of something nice and lightweight and then clamp to your stand or whatever is handy.

If i even *slightly* touch my stand, I get clunks and thuds (even with multiple shockmounts). I can't imagine having anything attached to it.

I'm with you Moke. I see guys with laptops attached to microphone stands and just shake my head... Not just because of the obvious thumps/ thuds, but putting expensive stuff on something that can me knocked down so easily is not smart in my opinion. Just putting my microphones on a stand in a crowded venue makes me nervous!

Do you feel safer with expensive gear on the floor? Sounds like a catch 22

Actually tucked away in a weather proof nova 5 bag, yes.

it can't fall from the floor. And, it can be covered in plastic sheeting.

Yes, plastic sheeting is my friend  ;)
You are, of course, taking a chance every time you bring recording gear out into the field. I like to minimize the chances something bad will happen to it. Gear on the floor in a padded bag and with plastic covering it, increases the odds my expensive equipment makes it through.

http://micsupply.com/standshelf.htm

this is all the parts you need, pretty cheap if you ask me.

however, i really would not do this, however seeing as you have such a small package, why not get a tiny camera case, or portable cd player pouch and just hang it from the knobs on the stand if you must do that?

I don't remember the part # but Rolls makes exactly what you are looking for.

You mean like this:

 ;D

I've never had a problem running it like this. When I did a 40 piece steel drum band, I set the shelve up near the base, turned it on, and just left it alone (it was right in front of the band and in front of where people had to walk to get to their seats, but I simply stood in front of it until most of the people were seated.
