Patching Into a Marantz PMD670
« on: February 03, 2013, 08:16:21 AM »
Got a question, I think I know the answer but curious what your guys take is, got a cable order and customer wants to go from a church 9200 miniplug out into the pmd670, there are line in/out rca's and the xlr mic/line in. Is there any reason you couldn't use the mic in's with phantom off? I looked around and but couldn't find anything on going miniplug out to duel xlrs, usually its the other way around, shouldn't matter right?

Either should work fine.  I've ran similar before but with various adapters.
The theory is to either keep things balanced..  or keep em unbalanced.  But for short cable runs, it shouldn't pose any problems IMO.
I imagine that he would get more gain through the XLR's if needed...  but tell him to never turn the P48 on if he uses the XLR inputs on the deck.  That will fry the 9200 quick.

This is what I would think too. He better tape down the 48v phantom switch. Id just go RCA in if it was up to me ;)

I'd prefer the RCAs - the XLRs are expecting a balanced signal.

And for sure, the accidental phantom factor seems an issue.

Arent those preamps designed with RCA or 1/8th inch consumer inputs in mind?
