Some people like to use a variety of preamps as a way of giving their recordings a flavor.

In my opinion, the SD preamps in the 702 are top notch, and you can add flaver in post, so for me, I'd run the smallest rig possible.

I've asked a few people who ran V3's in front of their SD 7xx's and have gotten 2 answers:

1. They like the sound of the V3 better.
2. They already owned the V3 and just want to use it.

Since it was stealth rig, and without knowing...  I'm guessing that your SD preamp is either a MP-2 or MixPre.
If so, both of those have transformers which will give you a "warmer" sound than the 702 preamps.
I can't say which is better...  both top notch IMO.  But they will have different "flavors".
