Title: 24bit / 16bit FLAC question
Post by: down2earthlandscaper on February 16, 2018, 06:06:57 AM
Im using Adobe Audition (2017) for Mac

I just noticed after saving individual tracks from a 24bit Flac file (Which I converted from the original 24bit WAV file)
that the "format settings" somehow changed to "16bit PCM" (I don't know how this happened, the original file is definitely 24bit)

I'm uploading these files to archive.org

Will this inadvertent setting change adversely affect the files?

(See attached image)

Thanks!

I can't help with the "why" of this as I don't use Audition, but whether the 16 bit vs. 24 bit matters is debatable.  Assuming a good resampling was employed in the conversion from 24 to 16, "objectivists" will say that there's not going to be an audible difference.

At the end of the day, the only way to know for sure if it makes a difference for you is to do a proper ABX comparison.
