Schoeps m/s configuration - what mount do I need?
« on: January 12, 2012, 09:43:04 PM »
I believe I've got everything I need, save for the mic stand mount for the mic capsules.  Do I need any other hardware besides (a shock mount and) the Schoeps SGMSC mount?

Thanks.

If you've got KC5 cables, then look around for a NOLAbar mount that Louie made and put it in a Shure donut.  Cheaper than the Schoeps mount by a lot.

The other option I've used would be to put a Vark bar in a Shure donut.  Set the donut at a right angle so that the vark bar is vertical and use a couple of SGC clips in a couple of the holes on one end of the Vark bar so that it holds your mics close together.

the sabra T bar works great w/the little scheops mic clips.  You can stack them one on top of another on the hex-bar for perfect MS or blumlein w/two 8 caps.

Checked since posting and Louie doesn't have any more MS bars.  On the one hand, I like Nick's suggestion on the Sabra bar because with the Vark bar you're stuck with specific spacings based on where the holes are, but the Sabra bar allows you to slide each side into position, so you can get the capsules as close as possible.  The negative about the Sabra bar though is that it has a 5/8 inch female on the bottom, where the Vark has a cylindrical riser, so you can put the vark in a shure donut for shock mounting.  With the sabra and clips, you'd have to get a little more creative to add shock mounting and still have the capsules real close together.

you can achieve M/S with the Vark no problem. would stay away from the sabra. it is way heavier. as Steve mentioned, I am currently out of stock of my custom MS mount.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do have the Schoeps KC5 cables, so the mount only needs to hold the two mic caps. I've also got a VARK bar, which I'm not too fond of and would rather not use. Ideally I'd like to find a lighweight mount along the lines of the Schoeps/NOLA bars that I could simply stick into one my Schoeps schock mounts and be done with it.

Low profile, quick set-up, etc.

Vark bar M-S:  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=97269.0

Re your original post, you could just get the Schoeps SGMSC.  For shockmounting:  connect the SGMSC to your Vark bar post, and place the Vark bar post in a shockmount.

The mount is the SGMSC and the windscreen is the Wms. I mount it using a shure donut with the Vark base. this is with the kcy.

Fleabay. I now have four caps and three totally different options.

Mk 6 + Mk 3
Mk 6 + Mk 22
Mk 6 + Mk 41

I'm thinking about doing some dedicated binaural recordings with the Mk 3.

Recording:
Capsules: Schoeps mk41v (x2), mk22 (x2), mk3 (x2), mk21 & mk8
Cables: 2x nbob KCY, 1 pair nbob actives, GAKables 10' & 20' 6-channel snakes, Darktrain 2 & 4 channel KCY and mini xlr extensions:
