5/8" spacers for stereo bar?
« on: February 01, 2015, 04:07:26 PM »
Hey guys. So I have this cheap stereo bar:

http://www.amazon.com/K-M-23550-500-55-Microphone-Bar/dp/B001G43G96/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422824697&sr=8-1&keywords=stereo+bar

I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find some type of threaded spacer to raise one of the microphones by about an inch? The mics mount level with the bar so I can't really do XY or ORTF, or much of anything at all.

Thanks

I used a 5/8">3/8" + 3/8">5/8" adapters coupled together to raise one side. Quick search on B&H came up with these, although tons of different brands out there.

Could you take one of the bar's mounts out, and re-thread it back in from the other side? That way, the mics would be at different levels, one above the bar, one below it.

Now why didn't I think of that??  :P

It does work, but is the vertical space (3+ inches) between the mics going to be an issue?

Thanks

What you are looking for is an Atlas AD-5B (female part) and AD-4B (male part)

They'll get you the spacing you need, and depending on how you thread them together and into the mount, you get a small bit of height adjustment.
