DR-680 AES-Spdif problem
« on: April 10, 2015, 04:09:37 PM »
I tried using my new AES-Spdif cable last night, but could not get it to work. Is there anything special I need to do to get the 680 to take the AES signal? I kept getting the DIN unlock message, but I'm pretty certain the sampling rate was correct.

I don't have any problems with a standard spdif cable.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of problems running digi in>680 before. Were you using the UA5?

Has anyone here had any similar experiences with MixPre-D > DR-680 combo?

I've had this work with Mixpre-D and a friends 680!  We ran it at 24/49 didn't try other sample rates.  With the R-44 the Mixpre-d will only pass 24/96 signal.

Has anyone here had any similar experiences with MixPre-D > DR-680 combo?

The Trashcan manual lists their DR680 digiIN as IEC60958-3 (S/PDIF) or AES3-2003/ IEC60958-4 (AES/EBU) automatically determined with supported recording and playback formats BWF: 16/24-bit, 44.1/48/96/192 kHz WAV: 16/24-bit, 44.1/48/96/192 kHz.

The Sound Devices manual lists their MixPre-D digiOUT as AES3 and S/PDIF compatible [24 bit only at 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, or 96 kHz]

The digigal cable fixed all my 680 aes in issues.  I could run 24/96 into it from a minime, though not the spdif, once I switched to it

The new v. 1.30 firmware may address issues people have been having...

"During AES/EBU input, when the Cbit sampling
frequency information was "Not Indicate" the unit
would become unlocked and unable to receive. This
has been fixed. However, proper operation cannot be
guaranteed when the input signal sampling frequency
differs from the setting of this unit"
