Good point and shoot camera - non-video
« on: June 15, 2016, 09:46:03 AM »
What are some good point and shoot cameras (non-video) that would be good for concerts?  I usually just use my I-Phone and that annoying "washed-out" look always seems to happen when the lights are hitting the performers faces.

Budget?

Also, I don't know of many point and shoots that don't shoot video.

The Canon G7X works well for me. It has good zoom and a nice 1.8 aperture. Also, it looks like a typical point & shoot camera and I've never had a problem getting it past security at any rock show. I bought it a year ago for around 400 EUR, so you could get lucky when buying used.

I made some nice pictures (usually from the spots I tape from in the front):

However, it can't compensate for being too far away (e.g. in a big ass stadium):

In that price range the G7X that Sebastian mentioned should be a great choice. The prices should have just come down or should come down soon given that the G7X Mark ii just came out.
FYI my only experience is the research I have been doing on a point and shoot for my self. I'm down to deciding on the Canon G7X Mark ii and the Panasonic ZS100. Both have 1" sensors but are in the $700 dollar range. Panasonic has better zoom and 4k video but the Cannon has slightly better low light performance.

By the way, nice shots Sebastian.
