Just a public service announcement folks!

For a while now we've known the Exell 206A 1611 batteries no longer fit in the Nakamichi 300/TEAC ME-120/TASCAM PE-120.

Once upon a time - these did fit and work well - for whatever reason - that is no longer the case - they do not fit.

But you have to dig for this info - so just making this thread for the search engine - in hopes of making it easier to find for people looking for info on Nak batteries (a somewhat regular question here)

jmitchell - I used your image here - hope that is ok.

That is fine, I don't want other people to have to waste money sending batteries back thinking they would work out.  Maybe include the DIY fixes that I have found here as well?  I didn't bookmark those other threads for some reason, so not exactly sure where to find them.

This appears to be a battery that will work.  Similar length, obviously much thinner, but that is an easy fix.   It is an alternative for the H-7D which is a battery that the 300s would take.

"The Exell S177  battery is a Silver Oxide alternative for the once popular Mercuric Oxide 7MR9, and H-7D batteries. It is a little slimmer and a little shorter in length than a standard AA battery. It is the perfect replacement for the hard to find Duracell PC177S and Energizer EN177S, and it fits several Sony long shotgun-type condenser microphones. This S177 replacement produces 10.5 Volts, which is higher than the 9.45Volts and 9.8Volts produced by the original mercury version. Most devices accommodate the small increase in voltage and function perfectly."

I have not ordered these and tried them out, I have just been searching the interwebs trying to find a viable solution to the power problem.

Looks like a pair is going to set you back $22 + shipping...a little steep compared to some of the other choices.

Home Depot tubing, $5 for 10 ft.  30mm lengths, shove the batteries in, done deal. batteries and inner diameter of the tube are 1/2" the batteries slide very snugly into the tubing

Wouldn't putting 2 of these batteries together yield 12V? Does that work put OK on Nakamichi 300? Great price on them!

It does - but that is safe for the NAK FET...

The voltage infos are in one of the old team threads...somewhere.

THANKS! Just bought some Nakamichi 300 and was worried a bit by the price of batteries - This will save me a lot and give me $$ to buy other "needed" items  :)

^^^^^ thiS is a PERFECT solution!   I didn't want to wait for eBay, so I found a 10 pack on Amazon prime that came here in two days. I am set for a while and the tubing works perfect !    This should be your plan going forward!!

 ...

Just wanted to chime in and say that this hack works great.  You can find these 4LR44 batteries all over the internet and they're very cheap.  Less than a dollar's worth (literally) of vinyl tubing from the hardware store and I was in business - the mics work perfectly.  Again, an awesome hack, thank you for posting it!

Painters tape around the two also works. I've run my CM100s and CM300s with 12V for a couple years with no problem.
