Stellavox SP7 perfect condition for sale
« on: October 29, 2017, 01:32:14 PM »
Thanks for accepting my request.
I have received this old recorder, it works and it is in perfect conditions.
I'm asking you which could be its value and if any of you could be interested in buying it.
I've attached some pics so you can see its inputs and actual conditions.
Hope this post is not against your rules.
Thank you,
Ivan

I would think it is in the same class as the Nagra IV-S - those can sell for prices all over the place but I would think $1000 and up is where the value would start (Nagra IV-S's can sell up to $4000 depending on condition and what additional features are included)

Sonosax bought Stellavox in the 1990's so you can reach out to them for more details (www.sonosax.ch)

Here is an SP7 in need of service that sold for over $2500

So I would think you could get over $3000 for your unit

These units where used extensively in TV and FILM production in the 1970's - 1990's (when DAT and digital recorders eventually replaced them)

There has been a huge resurgence in interest in them in the last 5-10 years - before that the value was much less (You could easily find Nagra IV-S's for under $1k and sometimes under $500)

I would reach out to Sonosax to find out more as your head unit is marked as Mono (and for aligned for a specific type of tape) and not stereo so you may want to find out what that means (i.e. is it a playback only head, does it record 2 channels of mono, does it reocrd 1 channel mono, etc).  They should be able to help out how the unit is configured - which in turn would help you figure out value.

Decks with mono heads are typically worth less then decks with Stereo heads

FWIW - where ever you found this you may want to see if the have any more parts (heads, cables, internal modules, reel adapters, etc)

The Stellavox recorders had interchangeable head stacks, so "all" you would need to do is find a stereo head stack (some 40 years after the fact) and plug it in.

There was an extension frame for the SP-7 that allowed the use of 10-1/2" reels.
