DIN setup
« on: June 14, 2003, 08:04:06 PM »
using the akg ck61 with jk labs gear i am going to try going with DIN setup over AB to see what it sounds like.  my questions is, what is the best direction to get this setup going when at a large amphitheatre with stacks?  how far back should i use DIN, or switch to DIN over AB also.  should i get the axis right at the stacks or what?  thanks, just cant find much info on DIN.   thanks for the info

Well, for starters, I wouldn't ever, ever. ever use AB foir anything that we do in the field.  That said, DIN sounds pretty good from just about everywhere!

I would say you get very little stereo seperation at all.  One thing I really like in my tapes is a good image, and with ab you basically get none.  Even up close, you are still picking up the image, regardless of whether you can hear it or not in the field.  YMMV

i don't know the term AB, can someone explain?
i've been using DIN for a few shows now and i'm more pleased with it for my oktava's than i was with XY.  still not sure if DIN sounds better than some of my earlier recordings where i just pointed at the stacks...gotta play around with it a little more.

i think a lot of times it is hard to play around in front of your stereo, i know we all do it but it doesnt always do justice.

as for trying things i would agree, but i would say in the field is a better place.  it is easier to ask around so that you dont have to do raw testing in the field and risk botching a tape, why not just try and get it right.

i never really run AB, always ran ortf, i was just curious how it would be different.  im going to run DIN and see what this does for me, thanks for the advice
