Topic: 4.7k mod Y cable - how to identify?

I'll be the first to admit that no matter how hard I have tried to figure it out, I still can't wrap my mind around exactly the 4.7k mod is supposed to do......I know that somehow it is suppose to give mics the ability to handle higher SPL without distorting....I think.

Anyway, I have two sets of Y cables (two mini XLR>1/8") for my AT853's that I rarely use. One has the mod; the other doesn't. I used to keep them separate in a baggie that was marked. I managed to mix them up and now I don't know which is which. Is there a simple down and dirty way to determine which one is modded? Is there a test I can do with a multimeter? Will the modded set produce a lower signal if I do a side by side with my stereo at home?

I THINK you can plug them into your m10 then blast the radio with the mics close to the speaker and see which one distorted on playback

yes and mic plugged to 4.7 cable will have lower signal (6db - 12 db).

Use your mulimeter to measure resistance between the mini-jack plug ground (sleeve) and signal contacts (tip or ring).  The one without the mod will measure very high (M-ohm range).  The modded one will measure lower (K-ohm range).
