Concealing Wires for Wall Mounting
« on: September 26, 2007, 12:20:02 PM »
I mounted our 40" Sammy over our fireplace.  I have been up in the attic of our new place twice for other reasons and don't want to do it again until the temps cool off some.

I have a few ideas about how I am going to run power, but without knowing EXACTLY where our entertainment gear will go I dont know what cables to buy.  I already have a 25' DVI>HDMI cable and suppose that I should just 'pre-pull' a few HDMIs, a component, S-video, and a few audio pairs.  I think that what I will do is mount a clock receptacle behind the TV for power and then romex over to the outlet below (or a dedicated clock receptacle since I am also adding a new 200A box)  I would prefer to keep from tearing up the wall, but I may just cut it open, notch studs and run a PVC pipe up the wall so that I can pull easier in the future, if needed.

I am still brainstorming but am just curious what folks here are doing.

I helped a friend install his the EXACT same way.  He dropped conduit (2") with a slow 90deg elbow at the base.  It was a small hole in the wall above the fireplace, but it's made it SUPER easy to pull cables as he's gotten new pieces.  We did this a couple years ago, he's now on his 3rd TV, and the cable pulling has been a dream.
Socks are overrated.

i assume you can get someone to do this for you, any suggestions on where i should look?  ie, do i just ask circuit city or am i better off finding a local specialist?

i am not skilled enough to do this myself but I would like to get a 42" tv hung above a fireplace and have the wires concealed.  thanks.
I love you like a fat kid love cake

I think that almost any electrician would be willing to do it for you.
