Title: Question about windscreens
Post by: Gary Hull on August 11, 2003, 06:20:08 PM
For some reason I thought I read this on the board somewhere, but maybe I am just imagining things, please feel free to correct me if so.

I thought I read a post from someone that said if you had better windscreens it would cut down some of the chatter that your recordings pick up?

The reason I was wondering is because I am going to be getting some Shure SM81 windscreens for outdoor use, but if windscreens do cut down on some of the chatter should you use them indoors as well?  Also, is there much or any sound quality loss with these windscreens?

Gary

Not necessarily chatter, but low-level rumble like air condition vents (in addition to any air movement that may come along with them). You may not need to use huge windscreens indoors, but it never hurts to protect the capsules from smoke and other elements with lower-profile windscreens...
