Anyone run Superlux Mics?
« on: September 20, 2003, 07:02:14 AM »
I was just looking at these and for the price they seem like they might not be bad (I'm on a tight budget)  Anyone run or heard tapes made with these?

yes, I use the Superlux. I am very pleased with the results. Here is a DTB show I taped with them, its a pretty nice tape IMHO. http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=6313 . I wish Dirty Dozen and Wilco would give permission for the archive, I made some nice tapes of them too. If you need any more info, post back and Ill try and help you.

I've heard some of Alex's recordings.
Those microphones do a descent job.
They seem like a great bargain too.

a friend of mine got these as cheap overheads for drums, he doesn't like them so much says they sound "wussy."

i've used them a couple of times in a live atmosphere and i think they sound pretty good considering the cost.  unfortunately at the moment i don't have any samples to show off, but i should shortly.

I'm a poor college kid on a budget and just started getting into recording a little over a year ago, i think they're a great starter package for others in the same situation.

I also have tried them extensively in studio on overhead drums snare and guitar.  The kick drum mic they make is super, but the card's were not that great.  They seemed thin and tinny.  The octava mics seem like a better mic for the money if you get a hand picked pair.
