it could be possible
I don't know if the caps are removable.

I did this years ago in the late 80's with my TOA K1's

if your not good with soldiering / cabling / and don't have access to a very nice machine shop, for threading some screw on ends... not sure

you should check out the team nakamichi  http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=155387.0
for some capsule chops and mods
there are a number of folks that could help, though it likely would not be worth the $ to try to convert the mics you mention.

No reason to be bashful about asking a "dumb" question.  A college professor told me years ago, the dumbest questions are the ones you don't ask.

Few thoughts:

1) Save your money and invest in a set of microphone that will meet your purpose later, not now.  I would recommend the AKG46x series, as they are inexpensive and can do what you want.  If you go to get the cheapos, you won't be able to sell the cheapos and you'll eat that money.  If you save the money, you are halfway there to your AKGs...

2) I have a set of small diaphragm cardioids I can sell you dirt cheap - I bought them for a project that never came to fruition:  Behrigner C-2 cardioids actually.  PM for price, etc.

3) Start saving money:  don't eat lunch, break-up with your girl, sell your car and maybe a kidney.  Once you start down the path towards the Dark Side, there is no turning back.  You wallet will be sacrificed to the taping Gods...

***Do you have PHISH, VIDA BLUE, JAZZ MANDOLIN PROJECT or any other Phish related DATs/Tapes/MDs that need to be transferred???  I can do them for you!!!***

I will return your DATs/Tapes/MDs.  I'll also provide Master FLAC files via DropBox.  PM me for details.

Sony PCM R500 > SPDIF > Tascam HD-P2
Nakamichi DR-3 > (Oade Advanced Concert Mod) Tascam HD-P2
Sony MDS-JE510 > Hosa ODL-276 > Tascam HD-P2

Is it possible to unscrew the capsule from the base/body of the mic and mount it directly to a cable in order to make it more "stealthy".  If so, where can I find such a cable?  If it helps to know what type of mike I am using, I plan on using either (a) Behringer C-2's or (b) Samson C02's ... please don't laugh ... as I don't have much money and I am wanting to experiment with capsules.

To actually answer your question:

No, there is not a cable you can "just buy" that will do this.  You will see that both (a) manufacturers make cables for some brands  that will allow you to detach the body from the cable, or forego the body altogether and (b) some enthusiasts can do their own mods and cables that have similar results.  For example the chopped Naks people are pointing you toward. Or the Schoeps NBox cables, which are not going to be in your price range.

Any reason in particular why you are focused on Samson and Behringer, other than price?  I ask because if you want a stealthy, good sounding microphone, you can just buy smaller mics that will sound as good or better than those particular brands.  The Church Audio CA-14s much smaller and cost $150 new with a battery box.  Considering that to run Samson and Behringer you'd need a 48V phantom power supply, the Church Audio solution is almost certainly cheaper (and definitely smaller) for you in the long run.  While it is true that generally a "fullsize" small diaphragm condenser mic will sound better than one of these miniature kinds (especially as far as cardiods go), the Church mics easily stand up to the Samson and Behringers of the world in quality, not to mention quality control.

Audio Technica 853s are also a high quality small mic that can be had cheaply used.  I think some are for sale still in the yard sale. PM "darktrain".

Well said jack. I would go the ca14 route. I have owned them a few times and am ALWAYS amazed at how good hey sound for the money
