V3 > analog out > HD-P2 line-in
« on: July 24, 2006, 11:15:13 AM »
hey folks, I want to run analog out of the V3 to my HD-P2, so that I can make use of the limiter on the HD-P2 at an upcoming acoustic show (hoping to limit the loud audience between songs, so that I can run at a higher gain overall).
I've been looking at the V3 analog output specs, and the HD-P2 line-in specs, and I'd like some help interpreting them.  First off, here are the published specs:

V3:

UNBALANCED

and here are the HD-P2 specs:
Connector: RCA Pin type
Input Impedance:10 k-Ohms
Input Level: –46.2 dBV (Trim Max) to 0 dBu (Trim Min)
Headroom: 16 dB
Maximum Gain: 46.2 dB

so, how hot can I run the V3 without overloading the HD-P2 line-in?  The specs for the line-in on the HD-P2 say 0 dBu with set at "trim min", but it also says that it has 16 dB of headroom.  I want to know what the max signal out of the V3 I can safely send it, without overloading the HD-P2.  If the max I can send it it 16 dBu, I just need to be sure that I never go over -3 on the V3 meters.  But if the actual limit I can send it is 0 dBu, then I want the V3 meters to peak somewhere between -21 and -15.

any help?

thanks Moke.  part of the problem for me is that I've never run analog into the HD-P2, even without the V3 in the mix.
The show is on Thursday.  I'm going to get everything set up at home in front of the stereo and see how it goes.

any other input is welcome, specifically with help about the HD-P2 specs :)
