I'll be taking out my AKG's for the first time ever tonight.
Just looking for advice on deck/preamp pairings that go nicely
With these mics.
I can go
A) 481 > Mix Pre-D > marantz PMD661 (AES)
B) 481 > SD 722
C) 481 > Naiant (littlebox or tinybox) > Sony M10
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I never owned any of that gear but I think I would choose (A)
-
Would it be feasible to bring a do more than one option over the course of the night so you can get a good comparison?
-
Usually I love to switch things around at set breaks etc to run comps,
However tonight is kind of special in that they're doing a documentary on the artist and running three cameras
so I think it would be best to pick one combo and stick with it for the whole night because they are
likely going to sync my audio with their video in post.
I will be running at least one (if not two) other sets of mics to make sure I have a back up and that at least one of the 2 (or 3)
sources will be really good.
-
I would not hesitate to run straight into the 722.

ive always liked my AKGs with my littlebox ran my 461s with it last night for CR
XB and it came out greaT. Youll be fine with any if the options you referenced.

B. Just to prove the mics>722 is a worthy option. I've been a 722 owner since launch many years ago and my mics>722 are a proven option.
Look for "tim in Jersey" on archive.org for proof...
This one in particular...: https://archive.org/details/rre2013-10-13.mk4v.DIN.flac16

you use schoeps though. Personally I think akg > 7xx doesn't sound good
Where schoeps and dpa do
That's why I put b last but everyone's ears are different

what did you choose and how did it go?

Fair enough. When I still ran AKG 48x I used to run a V3>722 and haven't listened to enough recordings straight in to 722 to form an opinion. Hadn't considered that angle...

Can't beat 480 v3 combo
-
I very much like the sound of my 481s > FP24 combo.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up using the Littlebox>M10 based on another recommendation for that combo. Turned out really nice! For this Fridays show I'll mix it up and go with one of the other combos.
I usually really like whatever I pair with the MixPre D > (AES) Marantz PMD661 so I'll likely try that (however the Dpa 4022's are about the only mics I've tried that don't really sound very good to me with that combo. They sound killer with the Tinybox or Littlebox though.
