anyone run RA XLRs into UA-5?
« on: June 27, 2005, 01:43:34 PM »
i'm thinking about getting some Bumblebees but i'm not sure if i want to get the RA male end for the UA-5.  i usually run my UA5 vertical in my Nova 5.  i'm running 480>ua-5>jb3.

thoughts?  pics?

thanks.

My Neutrik NC3MRC right-angle XLRs don't fit in the UA5 - the female XLR ports on the UA5 are too close together.  Other RA connectors...dunno if they'll fit.

I've got RA's going into my UA-5. I have a set of marc's cables, and the neutrik's he used fit just fine. I don't know the part number, but I think they are just the standard xlr's. Anyway, I run my UA-5 vertically, and I really like the RA connectors.

the Neutrik r-angle's will work on the UA5 if you rotate them 45 degrees.  I run mine like that...

Kinda ends up looking like this from the top if the UA5 is vertical.

my RA neutriks work great, come out something like this.  They do not work w/ an MP2 or other SD products.  marc can also fashion more lowpro RA but i think they take a little longer to make and probably cost a little more too.

I know that Tony (low spark) run shis Canare Star Quad RA cables into the UA-5 with no problems.  And they're pretty thick cables, compared to the Bumblebees.

This is exactly how I run my UA5.  I used Canare Star Quad and regular RA black/gold Neutrix from MarkerTek for my cables and they fit fine.

it is a nova 4 aw.  it has just enough room to hold everything.  i have the ua5 elevated using a 3x9 utensil organizer with cut outs in order to let the cables exit through the rear.

got some pics of that DIY utensil organizer??

also, with the nova 4aw, it definately looks like it would be snug... what all do you have in there?... basically, what's under the jb3 and the other hole, is that where you store the starquads when all zipped up?

I like my Nova 4 but I have trouble fitting my cables in there.  I have to put them on top of everything when I close the bag up, kind of annoying.

I'll post some pics this afternoon.  under the jb3 it is divided into 2 compartments, one holds the jb3 and the other holds an otterbox with the mics.  i store the cables in the front pocket.

at the time of that pic, i carried

2--at 8410
2--adk sc-t (in otterbox)
1--jb3
15ft stereo pair mini star quads
1--akg t-bar
1--walmart 9v
1--rapid release adapter

in the top pocket i carried misc items such as velcro ties, flash light, mini tool, firewire & rca > mini cable, and a clamp

i got a Nova 5 and carry about the same amt of stuff:

1 jb3
1 otter box with 480s
UA-5
15' XLRs
Walmart battery
vert bar
akg t bar
mini maglite
at8410 mounts
misc connectors, spare optical, velcro strips in the top lid
pad and pen

i'm still fiddling with the configuration of the bag as the 480s are new and i got some leegeddy xlrs on the way too which should take up less space.

Does anyone else have pictures of their Nova 4 bags so I can get some ideas of setups.  I have tried a few different configurations but I am having trouble finding one that really works well.

i found the rack in the kitchen section at kmart.  it is a 3x9 utensil holder.  i just snipped the wire to let cables through
