I'd suggest staying away from the CS 7-pin.  Not a true Sony 7-pin like most others out there.  Pins are way too long and fat, and easily bent(no protection).

Get one from the Oade's or from pro-digital.

I'll second that.  A friend was in a pinch so we ordered a second hand Core Sound 7 pin.  He got the cable yesterday and called me to describe what a piece of crap it is.  He said that pretty much any movement of the cable made the rec. unit loose its signal.  I guess, for home transfers, the cable would be ok, but for field use---avoid!

For what its worth, it was a back up cable and he only paid $23 for it.  Not a waste of money, but definately not reliable.

geoff, keep lookin...ebay always seems to have d7s and d8s on there.  i picked up a used d3 wth (supposedly) low hours + the coax/optical i/o box (rmr-d3) and ac adapter for under $300.  i had to build a battery pack and find a used oade active cable ($100) for field use as the rmr-d3 is only ac powered, but the deck is in near mint shape and so far has recorded and played quite well for me.

the core sound cables are pure dodo, easy to break the pins, and that is if they don't stretch out the 7 pin whole rendering it useless for the good cables. You get what you pay for people, you get what you pay for.

here is a deck and oade 7-pin passive for sale, for some reason he thinks he can ask for what he paid even though its 2 years down the road

From: "Eric T. Nelson" <eyeandiglass@netzero.net>
Subject: D8 for sale + Oade cable (passive)
Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2003 21:49:38 -0400

Howdy folks.  I am selling my D8 and Oade cable and figured I would offer it
up to the list before posting on ebay.
The D8 is 4 years old, however has opnly about 40 hours of actual use on the
machine.  I bought it from someone else on the list in person (Matt Currie)
about 2 years ago.  It was his second deck and only used on sporadic
occasions when 2 different sets of mics were being run, etc.  he used if for
about 40 hours in the 2 years he owned it.  I have not used it a single time
since I have owned it due to not seeing much live music while saving to buy
a house and then repairing said house... I have the original bill of sale
signed over to me and all of the original packaging that comes with the D8.
I paid $400 for the deck and am looking to get the same back.
Also I have the world famous Oade cable (passive version) with the 7-pin
plug needed to patch out of this deck.  I paid $125 for the cable 2 years
ago and have not used it a single time.  I am looking to get $100 for the
cable.
I would like to sell both of these items together for $500.
I live in the Burlington, Vt. area and would ideally like to sell the deck
and cable in person.  Also will be in the Boston, Mass. area for the fourth
of July weekend and we could arrange to meet somewhere then.
Please email me if you have any questions about the deck or would like my
phone # to call up and ask about it.  This is a great deal for someone
looking to get into taping/patching at shows to get a basically brand new
deck and patch cable for a great price!
Thanks for looking,
Eric

$500, that is a little steep for equipment 4+ years old.  Hey I bought my car four years ago for 15000, not that many miles, I'd like to ge the same price.  What 'ca think?

You can, if you buy it from them.  You have to buy the d-mod up front, though.

That said, just wait and see which deck Daryan ends up selling and buy it.  You either get an M1 or a JB3, both of which are great with the UA-5

Well, I will definately like to wait, but I have 3 weeks til my next show and I cant wait too long. And also I decided against the JB3 due to the fact that a friend wants to do a live release and asked me to do it so therefore I have to go dat

while i think it's real cool that you are looking to help your buddy out and I'm not saying you should get a jb3, but you are going to have to use your deck for a lot more of your own stuff than just helping your buddy put together a live release.  I actually thought one of the big advantages of the jb3 (and i could be wrong) was the ease of transferring shows to your pc.  so it seems like it might even be easier to get your buddy the cd's from what you tape.  that being said, i would choose DAT because you don't have to deal with a coax>optical converter.  all i'm saying is think about what you're going to be using it for most.  hell, if it comes down to it, i'll send you my m1 to use for taping your buddy.  good luck
