Title: marantz 670 remote power questions
Post by: crossthreaded on February 19, 2008, 06:25:35 PM
I just got a 670 recorder and am looking for a way to provide remote power.  I have read about the dvd batterys that people use and I just wanted to make sure I understand that all you have to do is get a standard dvd battery from wal-mart or best buy and plug it into the power plug on the recorder. or get an adapta plug deal to make it the right size

I know the recorder says it has a 13v input but all of the dvd batteries I have found are 9.5v or so.

is there another option for a readily available power source to use?  I have a couple shows coming up and would like to get something situated in the next couple days.

I use 2500mh rechargable Energizers in the regular battery sled, and can get close to 5 hours out of it. The main reason I picked the Marantz was the ability to run AA rechargables and get away from the ball and chain of outboard power supplies. If I was taping a long day of festival sets, I just keep extra sets of batteries charged up in my bag to switch out between sets.

I used a combination of DVD batteries and Energizer 2500mah rechargable AAs.
The Marantz recognizes the external battery as the wall wart and switches seamlessly to the internals when the DVD batt runs out. The internals will run down some when using external power and I usually kept the AAs in the sled in my bag and switched out as neccesary. The last show I recorded with that deck was 2 hours, ph power on, backlight on the whole time and my wally batt was still 3/4 full.
I fretted over the 13v thing for a while, thought about getting one of those expensive adjustable voltage batts but its very tolerant of the input voltage and runs just fine off of 9-12v.

well good to hear it gets good battery life off the internals.  I think for the price i'd like to keep a dvd battery in there just for insurance since I have no clue what i'm doing and will probably not be running it at its most efficent pace.

I'll go to best buy and wal-mart and see what kinda deals I can score on a dvd battery.  i'll pick up some of the energizer recharchables as well while i'm there.

thanks for the help

Anyone know the tip size?  Is it the same as the 671.

 Marantz PMD-671 / 15v / Size M, 5.50mm OD × 2.10mm ID / Center pin (+)  Ring (-) / Known to run on 9v with no issues
