Split-length Techflex is easier to use, especially if the connectors are already installed, but adds significantly more bulk than the non-split type.
Agreed. For one, the overlapping design of the split requires more material (read: bulk) per inch. When it comes to stowing, I would imagine the split design has a larger minimum bend radius vs non-split (all else being equal). The fused edges at the split seem to slightly reduce the overall flexibility- this is more notable with a full jacket.

I hate a single wrap, techflex or tape/shrink
It seems one cable always wants to roll different from the other and never sends up laying flat.
I'll take two cables all day
Actually if I could, I would take a single cable that splits out like my tinybox.
Best of both worlds. One cable for 90% of the way but detachable dual cable so nothing gets tangled

What sort of cable would be necessary to make a stereo balanced mic pair cable?  Five wire?  Six? Then it would need a Y adapter at each end right?

For general usage I really like Mogami W3106 "siamese cable".  The pair looks like heavy electrical cable.  Each one has served shield + two cables inside.Very nice to work with and works well.
I have not bought any recently.  If anyone finds a good source, please post here.  I'd like to make some new cables.
Thanks,  Richard
Please DO NOT mail me with tech questions.  I will try to answer in the forums when I get a chance.  Thanks.

I techflex.  It is mainly for appearance's sake.

I prefer not tech-flexed.

I do open and 007 recording. In the case of n-box>3.5 input the techflex puts unnecessary strain on the connectors due to stiffness.

Also I have yet to nick the jacket on XLR cables, and I've been doing pro-AV for 20+ years and never had a cable fail EXCEPT at the connector due to strain.

YMMV...
Tim, usually, or in my case, the techflex stops quit short of connection, mine every bit of 6 inches?

can anyone with nbob actives techflexed please post some picture of them coiled and loose?  trying to get an idea of size and my searches turned up nothing.  I know the cables themselves are very thin just wondering about bulk.  thanks!
