248 problems.......
« on: November 02, 2005, 11:57:33 PM »
Ok so I bought this unit a while back (panic run in myrtle beach) and have had problems with the unit from the start so I sent it to Doug who fixed it, but it still wasnt working to its full potential (flaky).  I got screwed out of the upgrade and battery replacement that I had to do immediately after I tried it the first time and got nothing out of it.  Now it sends straight static signal and is really pissing me off.  The guy I bought it from (which I will mention later if he doesnt take care of all this mess, which I suspect he wont because I never got a reinbursement for upgrade + battery replacement.) I thought about e-mailing Doug but I dont feel I need to pay for this since the seller F*cked me.  I know he is big in the "panic scene" and have flamed him before because he wouldnt return my e-mails.  Any suggestions on a way to handle this civily? (because as of right now I just want to ruin his name due to lack of communication and reinbursement for selling me a unit he knew needed to be sent in.
Anyone else ever have past problems with the 248 on a regular basis?

ive left him messages and he hasnt returned them, but that wass awhile ago.  Im going to call him later today.  he still owes me for the first repair and I dont feel its fair for me to pay for a unit that was supposedly in "perfect" working condition
Im going to get in touch with doug as well
thanks for the input fellas

Hmmmm....

I'm wondering if this used to be mine. I sold it to someone who's "big in the panic scene", and I'm pretty sure they no longer own it.

Can you PM me their initials? If it was mine, it was in 100% perfect condition when I sold it.

this might sound totally dumb, but have you tried seeing if the problem might come from other sources?  bad cable, problem in your a/d, ect?

yep ruled everything out and it comes down to the 248.  I have taken it out of the source and have been pulling great tapes and have used the same equiptment, of course with the exception of the 248
thanks for the suggestion though, definately not a stupid question

I would almost bet that Doug would go back and see his work again gratis, but call him- he's a good, reasonable guy.

just remember, you win more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I'd definitely call Doug and talk to him about it.  In my experience he is extremely reasonable and has always done me right on work he's done to my 148 and the D8 I used to own.  I can't imagine him not making his work "right".  Did you send it to him specifically to fix the static issue?  As for the problems w/ the seller, I agree w/ you that it is their responsibility to fairly represent the condition of the gear they are selling.

when I sent it to Doug after purchasing the unit, it was because it simply didnt work.  I got no signal from the unit because the battery would not charge and he also had to upgrade some of the hardware.  So basically I bought a non-working unit or to put it another way its like a bought a broken DAT recorder and had to send it to pro audio to fix it.  Completely misled me and charged me more than I see them going for these days but didnt care, at the time, because it was supposedly in "Perfect working condition" and had a clean bill of health ::) ...scammer

thanks for the help fellas ;)

do your best to contact the seller.  doug isn't gonna want any part of this problem/headache until it's worked out.

sorry it ain't working.  i'm about ready to send my m248 in for some work, please report back once a resolution comes out of it.

or post his name to see if he is as big as his 'name in the panic scene'

i don't know many wsp tapers that would screw anyone, but a few come to mind.

Yeah, I can't really either...at least not any that I would put on the "big in the scene" list.
