Tinybox battery life (over the life of the product)....
« on: June 02, 2015, 10:25:36 PM »
I have been enjoying use of the Tinybox I purchased and received in May of 2012. As I recently moved to a town with a vibrant club, it has been getting weekly use. I know these take a bit to build if I were to need a replacement, so how long can I expect the battery to last before needing a new one? If I needed a new battery, where could I get one?

Worst case scenario, what new product might be available?

Thank you for responding! How do you get a battery replacement? Do you send along the unit to get a new one?

i have not done it but yes you can send it back. I think you can get the battery and do it yourself if you feel comfortable too

Why don't you contact Mr. Naiant and ask him? He's active on this board, no?

Jon has mentioned what parts he uses (including the battery) in previous threads. I'm pretty sure there is a thread about having to switch over to Ni-Cad batteries because he can no longer ship the Li-Ion batteries.

That being said...probably easiest (and safest) to send it back to him. I suspect the turnaround for a battery wouldn't be very long.

If you really don't want to send it back (and/or want to do it yourself) it should be as simple as opening it up and looking at what it says on the battery. A Google search would likely bring up the replacement part.

<curmudgeon mode on>

Searching here can be hit_or_miss as well as being slow. Instead of someone spoon-feeding you the answer read this http://www.catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html to see why some of us think you should put forth a little more effort.

If you want a shortcut, I suggest just asking the maker - http://taperssection.com/index.php?action=profile;u=15691

My TB v2.2 was purchased in June 2012.  The battery died Friday night and needs replaced. So the answer is about 3.5 years.

My v2 is still going!  I probably bought it in 2011ish.

Hi!

I remember seeing this information in a thread a while ago, but I have been searching for 30 mins now, and I still can't find it... Anyone know where this tinybox thread is?
My old tinybox (1.5) is the li-ion kind and from 2011, it would be nice to have a replacement battery lying around.

The Li-ions originally used can't be shipped without a hazmat contract.  You can buy them here, but the seller adds a $28.50 charge per box for the hazmat service:

Thank you Jon, that was the information I was looking for :-)
I will think about whether I will get a new Li-ion battery or have you replace it with NiMH. Would you think my Li-ion battery is getting near its end? Bought late 2011, used maybe 30 times a year, charged mostly every time...
