Clamping to a 8 inch Dia round pole.
« on: November 07, 2016, 05:09:55 PM »
Well the subject says it. Is there a clamp for such a job? I see these supports from time to time, big round and steel.

I would be concerned about the venue letting you clamp to the pole, but i doubt there is anything made specifically for something like that.

On the other hand, it would be simple enough to find some kind of clamp that will fit, and use a regular clamp to clamp to that.

We have a place which has a 8-10 inch square pole and use a large wood clamp:
http://www.justclamps.com/bar_clamps.htm

I have a 24 inch Pony Steel Bar Clamp which works great for this application.
This may not be the right style of clamp for a round pole but I'm betting you can find a wood clamp which will do what you need.

music IS love

When you get confused, listen to the music play!

I carry a nylon/velcro compression cinch strap, and an assortment of bits to attach mics to. I don't use it all that often, but, when I need it, it certainly saves the day.
Wrap around post, and tighten down; making sure that I have my adaptors "cinched" behind the strap, sandwiched between strap and post.

mine is black, as opposed to this blue strap.

I like to use long velcro tape  for this sort of thing, you can make it really tight and secure, leaves no marks or dents... works greataround trees and large poles.
get 2 packs of these:

you can easily join together  for longer wraps, and get it snug and tight.

I haven't done this with mics, but with cameras and lights:

I've got a 4"x8" piece of wood with a 3/8" adapter screwed into one end that I can screw either a 5/8" stud to or a ball head to. (Version one had a Lowel stud with a wood screw screwed in directly.) This is then either strapped or gaf taped to the pole (or flat surface even). It won't hold a ton of weight, but a pound or two isn't a problem so long as it isn't cantilevered out too far.

one could do this an use cracheting straps to hold a ton of wight. I've used and seen this system used to hold solar panels and more.
like theses https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Ratchet-Tie-Down-Alternative/dp/B014AG5LXK/ref=sr_1_1?s=hardware&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1478657847&sr=1-1&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011
I find for audio taping use Velcro is easier, and light to haul around.

I tried yesterday to find info on that... thanks!
that's what I use for one venue that has an 8" drink rail I clamp to
I use the regular Matthelini for my other clamping needs, as was discussed here

What about a ratchet strap as part of the setup?  Would be very secure.
