M1 power?
« on: July 25, 2003, 06:22:51 PM »
I just upgraded from minidisc to DAT and will be recording at phish tom. in atlanta and just wanted to know what your experience is with powering the M1.  What suggestions you have, whether to use AA photo batt. or the rechargeables?  or something else.
thanks in advance for the help ;)

Never ran w/AA.  I've been using that battery I've posted for a few years now.  Been too long since I've used the Sony re-chargeables to recall, at least a 3 hour show.

i use maha 1800 mAh rechargeable aa batteries and love them.  i can tape for over 3 hours and use the same batteries for 1.5 hour in playback.

That looks like a cool little battery.  Just curious...is it really bad to run an m1 on 6v?  I know it can be done because I plugged in a 6v ac adapter to mine and it worked like a charm.  Any chance that I could damage anything etc?

I have definately heard of people running it on 6v in the field.  I was just curios as to the long term effect.  I guess it doesn't really matter, I am moving hopefully to PDA recording in the next three months!

I am thinking of something along the lines of ah, cheap!  The hp ipaq's or whatever they are called sound like they will work.  I think some of the one's len is reccomending are around 200 or less used off of ebay.  Then you have to get a 200 dollar 5 GB card and it should be good to go.  Sounds a lot easier than hauling the laptop rig to shows!  Hell, I could probably sell the laptop and pay for the pda with all of the stuff I have bought for it!

i had a thread awhile back on this

i was using a 6v sla to power my m1

i thought it was ok to run it on 6v, but i hear otherwise

we tested the wall wart to find out is is like 5v...

all i hear is that alot of people are frying thier m1s with 6vs, so i will never again use a 6v with mine, but yes it did work when i tryed it.

i have use regular aa's, the supplied 1300mah aa's that came with the m1, and i now use 1800mah aa's.

with the 1300 i taped phish at bonner springs and played back most of first set on the one set of aa's

the 1800 mah's i used for the first time, after cycling them 5-6 full times, on friday i got 2 hours recording, one hour playback, all with the lighted disply on, and the battery meter still said full....
