Title: audiofile-engineering wave editor
Post by: macdaddy on November 26, 2011, 10:06:39 PM
just started using this program (http://www.audiofile-engineering.com/waveeditor/), and i figured i would start up a centralized thread since the discussion regarding this program is in a bunch of different places...

speaking of which, some threads i found useful while figuring out wave editor (and mac wav editing, in general) are here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=143355), here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=125789), here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=147525) and here (http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=127931)

thanks to the folks in the team mac thread who pointed me in the right direction. +t

+T.

Also, anyone know how to apply EQ to just one channel? This is useful for my M-S setup.

(moved this here, so the first post isnt filled with my spew)

great program. fwiw, here is the workflow i use...

open the files i recorded as consecutive quick edits in a new document. for a matrix (assuming both sources are sync'd to the same clock), open as overlapping layers...

trim wav files (getting rid of pre-show chatter, etc):  move the smartedits (and their boundaries) around.

add fades: select area for fade > layers > add fade (repeat as needed). fwiw, i se the quadratic linear ones.

flatten all.

layers > add effect > eq (bass roll-off) > flatten all (flatten here to have the eq take effect prior to computing the next step..)

processor > normalize (-.2db)

SAVE TO... wave editor file (*.wedt). this file is used for both the 16/44 and 24/96 file sets, and can/should be deleted when the file sets are completely made. saving this file simply gives a place to start for both filesets, where all the work common to the two is complete.

---> 24/96 (my currently preferred settings included)
open *.wedt file
processor >dither (izotope mbit+: 24bit, shape: ultra, amount: high, no boxes checked)
Save to... Wav file, 24 bit

---> 16/44.1 (my currently preferred settings included)
open *.wedt file
processor > convert sample rate (izotope resampler: ultra-steep, linear phase, resample box checked)
processor >dither (izotope mbit+: 16bit, shape: ultra, amount: high, no boxes checked)
Save to... Wav file, 16bit

tracking: at some point during all this, i will have set track markers for each song; setting keystrokes for play/stop (space) and set markers (cmd+m) makes this step very easy (thx scb). export the labels to a *.welabels file to save the tracking, and to use for each fileset (16 bit, 24 bit, etc.) you make.

Open either the 16 or 24 bit dithered wav file.
load *.welabels file.
select all markers in the labels drawer >ctrl-click >save selection to... > 16bit/24bit wav ("wave") files

a couple of questions:

when matrixing two sources, once they are loaded as overlapping sources, is there a volume slider that i can use to go between layers/sources and adjust/fine tune the gain individually to get the right mix?

out of curiosity, what resample and dither settings do the rest of you use..?

finally,  i notice the advanced properties for the izotope processes don't show until you click around the window, which is tough 'cos you sometimes click/change settings before you even know what they are that way. however, they show in full the next time you open the processor window, as long as you have kept thewave editor app open. i think i might have to start a request with the help desk for this one...

Say, I've noticed since updating to version 1.5.6 that whenever I open a file created on earlier version that the audio fades and plug-ins do not load anymore.  Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm wondering if its a bug with version 1.5.6 that might hopefully get fixed with the next version or if I'll have to back to all the old files an re-create all their fades and plug-ins all over again which would be a pita.

Anybody considering Wave Editor, now is a good time to grab it ON SALE at a savings of $10 off the normal price.

Perhaps the discount is an indication that version 2 will be arriving soon.

I wonder if it'll fix the issue of v1.5.6 not recognizing fades from the previous versions.  Have to update and give it a try tomorrow and will report back with results.

Version 2 is in Beta now, don't know how long before it'll be released or when we'll know the new features being integrated with it.  The beta list for it indicates a Lion or Mountain Lion OS requirement so it doesn't look like version 2 will run under Snow Leopard.

Update v1.5.7 still does not recognize fades from prior versions.  Gives an error message of:  "An Error Occurred - Applying the settings to the global scope of Fade (x) failed because the Audio Unit was given an invalid property value."

what is the difference between normalizing to a maximum (-.2 db) and changing gain (peak + x = -.2 db)..?

the reason i ask is that i stumbled upon the analyzer today (doh!), and its max number was a percentage, which is not what i expected. i had assumed that "maximum" in the normalizer meant peak (since the other option is rms), but this analyzer figure has me worried that normalizing to a max of -.2db is not simply raising the gain to the specified peak.

so i figure changing gain to move the peak to -.2 db should make the change i want to make (raising the gain without changing dynamics)...

i am wondering if there is any difference between the two methods. i looked at the manual, but saw no explanation about the rms and maximum normalizer options.

thanks.

I never normalize, have always adjusted the gain from the "Smart Edit List" which I have set to display automatically upon opening via my default template.

Don't blame the messenger I'm only sharing the news I got in an e-mail today.

I'll be sticking with the current version myself, just not interested in moving to Lion or Mountain Lion for several reasons.  Yeah, it's also a bummer that there is no upgrade deal for current users but anyone who purchased Wave Editor recently including the reduced price spring sale offered in May will get a license key to the new version for free.

They actually left out the bit about changing the name because there is already a program called Wave Editor in Apple's App Store which is now the recommended purchase method for the new release.  Not a surprise though that they elected to put a positive spin on the name change instead of full disclosure.

Hopefully they'll continue to support the current version of Wave Editor.

just a little discouraged that I bought the program less than a year ago, and now, if I want to stay current (with an upgrade to mountain lion) I have to buy the program again. so, in essence, the program is costing me $180 not $89. and what I am really worried about is that this will be a pattern, and in another year, they are gonna call this something else, and I will have to fork over $90 yet again...

Take a listen to this interview with Audiophile Engineering... http://squarecad.net/ArchivePages/squarecad21_audiofile.html

I've been using the current Wave Editor for 3 years now, which has had several minor but free incremental updates.  I was actually looking forward to 2.0 as a major version update until I saw the minimum requirement of Lion.  The news of no discount for this next version stings a little too, even a $10 discount would be nice.  Wish they'd kept the name instead of Triumph but it is obvious they didn't want to deal with the Apple App Store already carrying a program called Wave Editor.

I've read that the Audio quality in Lion is not as good as Snow Leopard and I don't know if Mountain Lion fixes that.

Consider us lucky that at least we're not running Bias Peak.

I think the issue was the removal of "integer mode" in Lion.

There was a big discussion about it over at gearslutz, don't remember details just the bottom line.

I do also have other reasons for choosing to stick with Snow Leopard but audio quality is not something I'd want to sacrifice.

For those of you familiar with SRC and Dithering in Wave Editor I just have a quick question for you.

I know you do the SRC first, then dither.

My question is if i recorded a show at 24-Bit when dithering do i select the range to be 24-Bit or 16-Bit?  I assume 24-Bit as the range (just for the dither) and then save as 16-Bit and that will do the Bit-Depth conversion.

At least that is what I gathered from their manual on the topic.

Can anyone confirm these steps?
Title: Re: audiofile-engineering wave editor
Post by: macdaddy on July 17, 2012, 07:40:30 PM
nope.

for  example, I record at 24/96. then I src to 44.1. then I dither in the 16 bit space. then save the wav to a 16 bit wav. if you do it the way you mention above, you are just truncating the last 8 bits, and that is not advisable. if you do it the way I suggest, you dither to 16 bits, the rest are just zeros. then when you save to a 16bit wav file, you are dumping the extra zeros. there is a PDF manual for ozone that describes this better than I just did, but that is the jist of it.

hope this helps.

Can you apply eq to a portion of a file in WE? I usually add a new layer and apply eq to the whole file, then flatten. I just want to apply eq to two songs from this concert recording. If not, what is the easiest way to split and export 24-bit tracks in WE? I usually do this in Audacity after dithering to 16-bit. Thanks!

are there filesize restrictions..?

I am having trouble flattening a 24/96 recording that is a little better than two hours in length. either the resulting waveform never shows, or the program simply crashes. usually I just do set by set when this happens, but this one is one long continuous set, so doing it in pieces will be a pita; before I do that, I was hoping there was an easy fix...

thnaks, in advance.

ok any one with help or ideas.
I've been working on my Wilco 2012-09-25 and am ready to export all the tracks as wav's:

So I am ready to export my labels in WE 1.5.7 the latest update of it.
I used to simply select all the labels and right click to save selection to and  it would export all the labels (tracks) as wav's
however now I am getting a ton of force quits and I can only select one label track at a time.
however when it exports it appears to be exporting the entire 2gb file?

this used to work without any issues.

also now each time I do this is begins by flattening .... I have never seen this before.

any suggestions of how my time mastering and tracking this file won't be a waste of time?

If I'm uploading the show this is what I do:  Select [View > Labels] then from the track label viewer select your first track, with track selected goto [File > Export Selection > Export as FLAC...].  Repeat for each track.  Once all the flacs are exported you can fix any SBE's, and create MD5 and FFP's using xACT.

Thanx
I used to export as wave's easily as mentioned, then I could convert 24 bit to 16 bit using smple manager then use xact for all flac conversions, which was actually easy and preferred.

I'll try the flac method, wondering why the wav option is no longer available?

UPDATE:

This seems much more time consuming needing to do one track at a time. I mean with Wilco there are 26 tracks in the set. I have always been able to select all labels and save selection to and the process would be automated, each track would save and have the same (correct) naming. I could click and walk away and come back when it's done.

fwiw, I export to wav files by highlighting all in the label window>rt click>save selection as...

what I do is save a wedt file once everything but the resample/dither is done. that way, I open it>resample(44.1)/dither(16bit)>save to wav16 (and don't save the changes to the wedt file); open the wav16, load the labels>select all labels>rt click>save selection as. then for 24/96, I open the same wedt file, again, dither(to 24 bit), save to wav24, open wav24, load labels, save selection as...

That's my point - I have always done this.... except now when I select all labels (markers)  I do NOT have the right click save selection to option.
maybe it's because the file size is larger than 2GB?

I use the same dither and resample, but I guess I like the flac options that xAct has with different levels.  Maybe there is no reason for this , but it's how I used to do it when I used Peak... before it had so many issues I went to Wave editor.
I purchased sample manger before I did wave editor, so  I have both.
I guess I use familiar workflow processes, because they do work...
I suppose I can change  :)

ps I just started this track by track and t01 which is about 2 minutes of intro and tuning, shows it will take 10 minutes.... WTF: this way of doing each track at a time will take forever... time I don't have wile watching my 2year old son....

I've accidentally exported the whole show as a flac file before, it takes a long time to do that and the resulting flac lost the track markers.  I export them one track at a time, it's an export to flac so it does take a little time.  Once my flacs have all been exported I modify the name of them each individually by copying the common info and then just revising them with; d1t01, d1t02, d1t03 etc...

It's just the way I've always done it since I'm ultimately uploading flacs, figured it best to export them that way from Wave Editor since it can.  I'm open to suggestions if there is a more efficient/quicker workflow to accomplish the same task.  It's too bad Wave Editor doesn't build in support for uploading to LMA or ETREE like they do for Sound Cloud which I never use.   Maybe that's something Triumph will do or already does, idk, I'm only running the current version of Wave Editor (1.5.7) since Triumph requires an OS update?.

Wave Editor lists [MD5 checksum for image.dat files in DDP sets  new!] as a feature, don't know what this is, I use xACT for MD5 and FFP from the exported flacs.

I don't make the flacs in wav editor because wave editor cuts the tracks with sbes. so, I export the wav files, fix 'em in xact, then flac 'em.

Wave Editor does not cut tracks on sector boundaries.  By exporting to flac from Wave Editor, you're wasting time because it's converting to flac as it exports, but then when you fix the SBEs, you're decoding the flac files and then encoding them again.

^^^So how do you do this???
The [Export Selection] options are: MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC
The [Export] options add: Podcast, Properties, Labels, DDP, Cue Sheet, PQ Sheet

Why doesn't Wave Editor cut tracks on sector boundaries?  It burns Red Book Standard Audio CD's, which is not technically the same as CD-R's, is this why?  Seems like there should be a setting to cut on sector boundaries in Wave Editor but apparently not, does anyone know if Triumph 2.xx has this capability?  If not it would certainly be a good feature to request them to add since they look for user feedback and suggestions.

Until recently I had just assumed that since I was using CD Time Units in Wave Editor that it was cutting on sector boundaries.  I knew that xACT had a way to fix SBE's but didn't know you could check for them with xACT.

I don't make the flacs in wav editor because wave editor cuts the tracks with sbes. so, I export the wav files, fix 'em in xact, then flac 'em.

^^^So how do you do this???
The [Export Selection] options are: MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC
The [Export] options add: Podcast, Properties, Labels, DDP, Cue Sheet, PQ Sheet

Well like I said until this update to 1.57
I always have selected all the labels and right clicked, and  > save selection to > select wav24 and WE would export all the tracks as individual wav's.
That's how I have done this for over 2 years now it's always worked before.

however now I can only do this as one track at a time as you noted...

I am thinking that maybe because the file is now 2.75GB it could be causing the issues, so I may try to cut some of the file and paste it into a new file and   try to copy the tracks (labels)

Thanx!

I'm running OSX 10.8.2

but like I've stated I am wondering if it's because of over the 2GB file size... been too busy with work and family to have time to slit the file into two and re-track.

thank you.
then are you able to export the labels, aka save selection to > wav's

now that I have upgraded to the current version
when I tried this it seemed to export the entire show as each track

any suggestions?  Do you have a different work flow solution?

Thank you SCB!

That's exactly what I have always done - exactly
except now when I attempt this, I can  NOT choose save section to, as it is greyed out...

Maybe I'll run some tool programs  Onyx - Drive Genius and applejack and see if there is some kind of strange corruption... repair permissions etc hopefully that will fix whatever is causing the errors

no  not yet ~ I attempted to use the  automated support , however it seemed to simply freeze.
It seems I have had other issues with my computer... ran Onyx and drive genius

I have finally emailed supportvia the suport ticket function in WE, after many unsuccessful attempts.
It finally went through.

I got a response back:

Quote
Open up the Labels Drawer (View > Labels), highlight your Labels, right-click, select Save Selection To.... Just tested, and it works just fine in 10.8.2 and 10.7.x.

Which is how I have always done this.... still doesn't work...

Would trashing the preference file help to restore normal functionality?

If so in OS 10.8.2, how in the heck do I find my pref's?

I have looked but for the life of me can seem to find them like I =used to in 10.6 and every OS since 7.

thanx

Ian you indicated having other issues with you iMac, does it fall within this category by any chance?  My drive failed in July before Apple issued the program but it was covered under my apple care protection.  Before it completely failed there were some unexplained issues.

Dear iMac owner,

Apple has determined that certain 1TB Seagate hard drives used in 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac systems may fail. These systems were sold between October 2009 and July 2011.

Our records show that you have an iMac with an affected 1TB Seagate hard drive. Apple will replace your hard drive with a new one, free of charge, under the iMac 1TB Seagate Hard Drive Replacement Program.

Please choose one of the following options to get a replacement hard drive.

•Apple Retail Store - Set up an appointment with a Genius.

•Apple Authorized Service Provider.

•Apple Technical Support - Contact us for local service options.

Apple recommends replacing your affected hard drive as soon as possible. Before you go in for service, please back up your data. Learn more about backup options.

Additional Information

You will need to have the original Mac OS installation discs that were shipped with your iMac in order to reinstall your operating system, other applications, and any backed up data after your hard drive is replaced.

This worldwide Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iMac.

Apple will replace affected 1TB Seagate hard drives, free of charge, for three years from your iMac's original date of purchase or until April 12, 2013, whichever provides longer coverage for you.. Apple will continue to evaluate service data and provide extensions to this program as needed.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

Apple Inc.

Ahhhh that worked...

I do monitor my drive with Drive Genius and drive pulse.
I have recently  rebuilt directories, fixed the preferences, etc, including defragged the drive.  It is only a 500gb and not a 1TB, but is a 2012 iMac 21".

SOLVED!!!!

got this:

Quote
Do any of these labels exist on the master layer? If so, try transferring them to layers containing audio. Are they all listed in sequential order?
Did trashing preferences help?
The Triumph Converter should import fades and labels.

My reply was:

Bingo, I believe that I have created most of these labels on the master layer. I used the copy to layer... Layer1 and then it  seemed to work just fine !

I did not end up trashing my pref file... the copying the labels onto layer 1 seemed to do the trick!

Wow this was  boggling my mind for a over a month now,  thank you again.

glad I was now finally able to save my Wilco 2012-09-25 as wave24, now on to flacin'g and metatagging...

I just switched over from a PC to a Mac.  I'd like to use Triumph to process my live recordings.   I was familiar with Audacity on the PC, and I understand the workflow there.   Drop in labels, export files on those labels, flac, tag, etc.

Is there a document anywhere online, or does anyone have a little tutorial that might help me out using Triumph?  I know it can do a lot.  I would just like to do what I used to do in Audacity, and perhaps maybe add some eq'ing in there.

I think there's a pdf included with the demo version.  I will start there.

Thanks,
Bill

I did make the move to Triumph.  Scott's right, it has changed the interface up a lot (and I'm not sure why).  But the learning curve isn't that bad, though baffling at times.  I'll stick with it because it's the modern thing (retina compatible, 64 bit, etc), but I fully get why other people wouldn't be interested in making the switch.  Also, if any of your plug-ins are 32bit, I would stick with Wave Editor, since with Triumph you have to run it in 32bit mode to get them to work, and even then you get a very basic interface.

So this promotional quote from their website isn't true?
"We have greatly improved the workflow in Triumph, making it easier and faster to create your masters."

How about this one?
"While the new interface is absolutely gorgeous, it also stays out of your way, allowing you to focus on what you do best: designing audio."

you can still use the File > Load option to load audio files as consecutive SmartEdits

ok, i will try this...

thx

how do I do overlapping layers..?

so the key is you have to do new, then load. using open wont work anymore. smartedits seem to be consecutive, layers seem to be overlapping.

I wonder why that (the dialogue box changing) happened...

I also downloaded triumph for giggles-couldn't figure it out, but was getting frustrated because there was no old-type open dialogue box there, either, and that is what I was looking for...

In Triumph, as your probably figured out, you first create the project, then import the .wav file into that.  I think it might make more sense when you're working with lots of  distinct audio files?  maybe?

-Sam and Macdaddy -

Could you guys give me a few pointers to get me moving along here in Triumph? After I get the procedure down, I will document it and pass it on to others.
Basically, I'd like to load my 24/96 wav file of a show, put in track markers, normalize/adjust channel gains, eq it slightly, and then export to 16/44.1 and 24/96.

Here's where I am at:
I start a new project and get a Master Layer.  I then import my wav file as an asset.  It shows up under the master layer.  I then see the "Overview" and then the waveform below it, showing me Left and Right channel.

I need to balance the channels by adding gain to the Left.  Yet, I can't see a clear way to do this.  Nor can I find a normalize anywhere.  I'm guessing I need to add an effect to the asset?  But how can I apply it to just one channel?  What am I missing?  What if I wanted to zoom in to reduce clapping peaks?  I see how to zoom in, but is there an easy way to reduce the gain of a portion of the wav?

Ok, moving on to tracking.  I see a "Labels" section.  Under there I see all types of labels.  Which one do I want to slice up a large wav file?  Will a "marker" do it, or perhaps I need a "Track" ?  I see how to drop these onto my wav file, and then to the right I can provide text for each one.  I'm currently adding "Markers"

I'll stop my questions there because I realize I'm asking a lot!  But again, I will document the procedure so others can follow it after. Your time won't be wasted!

Thanks,
Bill

I've never fiddled with just one channel, so I can't help you there, but you can find change gain and normalize under the "actions" tab, in the processes section.

Markers or tracks will work fine.  I like to use Markers because you need to know the start and end point of a track.  I created a custom action for rendering markers to 24 bit files, since there isn't one by default.  Just make a new action and paste this in (the script is a quick modification of the marker to 16 bit render).  A more clever person than I could probably figure out a way to include a resample into this for the 16 bit script.  You could alternately have the script render directly to flac, but I like to use xACT for that.

I wonder about 4 channel too...
usually you would need to bounce the tracks or export as stereo, in most other software. Also Is there a channel strip mixer, or how do you adjust levels of each track.

To burn you would likely need to save labels to   - select labels then right click, choose save selection to...
choose wave
I'll say if you then
use XAct to convert waves  flac and add meta data - track names etc, when you drop the flac into toast you will have  a cd with proper cd text as the meta data retains.

Never made a four track matrix with wave editor but why would you use toast?  Wave Editor will make Red Book CD's and Text CD's; [File] -> [Burn Disc] for CD's after you've created the track markers and labeled your tracks (for text CD's) in wave editor.

Just wanted to say thank for your pointers with Triumph.  Little by little, I learned how to do it and I am able to successfully process my large 24/96 wav files.  I wrote a quick little notes document as a *.docx file, and I'd be glad to send it to anyone.  It will walk you through the rough steps of using Triumph and xAct edit, slice, and convert live recording files.  Now that I now how to do it, I do find it easier than Audacity.  My Mac rips through all conversions quickly.

Just wondering, but what made you try the dual mono recording? The few times I used the SD744, I recorded 4 x mono files, but with SD's Wave Agent, it was a SNAP to make them into 2 x stereo files ;)

Could you use SD's Wave Agent and make them 2 x stereo files so they load into your DAW correctly? Im almost 100% sure that SD's Wave Agent works on Macs as well 8)

Thanks.

You mean the channel window..? When they are loaded as channels, both show up as "mono"

They do not show up separately in the layer window/view...

Or am I missing something..?

yes, a channel is mono. but doesn't it show which was which? I'm forgetting without having the app open in front of me

what were the names of the files you loaded?

the r44 names the tracks 1.wav and 2.wav (1 is left and 2 is right). those names do not show in the channel or layer windows...

Fwiw, customer service confirmed this with an email I rec'd this am (which I have pasted below the dotted lines)...

This is great since mono x2 or mono x4 is the way to go at 2496 so I don't get file splits, which solves all sorts of ticky-tack hassles I was having...

----

The easiest way would be to load them one at time: you can import each audio file one at a time with File > Load.... The next file that's loaded is simply added as the next channel - left being the first channel that gets occupied.

Or you can arrange the files in the file system so that the left channel is alphabetically/numerically listed before the right channel. Then, when selecting the files together in the File > Load... screen they'll load in the correct order.

Nice. I would live to see that file. Thanks for the offer.

I'd like to see how to use Triumph, too.  I was a beta tester and couldn't figure out how to do the most basic things.  Then again, maybe it's because they were pre-release versions
yeah. I have not been able to figure out triumph at all. I tried, too.

The things I dislike about Triumph are
1) it's a hard drive hog -- my Triumph file from Set 2 of Wednesday's Umphrey's show is like 13 gig.
2) When i was trying to merge two really honking big 24/96 wave files together it refused to paste at the end like wave editor does, which was crazy annoying
3) when I flattened that resulting super big ass 24/96 it did so as a 44.1khz file ???

If I'm dealing with sub two hours sets Triumph isn't terrible, though I wish SRC > Dither was more straightforward.  Alternately I'm way over-thinking things.

You just get the feeling though that Triumph was not designed with what I (we?) tend to do in mind.

I have a question related toy inquiry regarding loading mono files as channels...

What if I record four channels, 1+2 are left/right microphones and 3+4 are left/right soundboard. If I record in 4x mono, how do I make sure that all those channels load up properly and are designated to the proper channels..? The r44 names them 1.wav 2.wav 3.wav 4.wav

Thank you, in advance, for any assistance on this matter...

So I recorded a four channel wav file last night. When I open it in wave editor, all four channels show, but the 3amd4 channels are labelled as surround  channels and will not play (at least no sound from those channels comes through my l/r speakers....

How can I route those channels to be mono or stereo..? In this case, I actually want them both to be mono, as they were different vocal board feeds. Sometimes, however, I will want these to simply be l/r.

So what I want to do is figure how to route a channel that is designated automatically as surround to mono or left, right...

I loaded the wav as a smartedits, because I have several of them I need to piece together consecutively...

Thanks, in advance.

Got it!

"Copy to" or "cut to" > new layer

When I selected one of the board channels, and did this, new layer was a single mono channel.

Exactly what I needed! Not sure what I am going to do of I get an actual stereo board feed, but I will cross that bridge when I get to it...

Splitting tracks is fairly straightforward.  Set markers > render markers to wave > save renders.  What through me for a loops was how they put SRC and dither in two different areas and made some of the render actions fairly opaque in what they were doing.  However, the absolutely newest, just came out today version of Triumph has cleaned that up and put them both in the render dialog so it might be better now.  They also brought the look into line with the Yosemite aesthetic.  I still think it's a disk hog however, and it does suck you have to basically learn their scripting language to make it do what you want to.

edit:  oh, and if you don't already own Triumph, you now have to buy the izotope src and dithering separately.

looks like 79.99 for Triumph and 99.99 for iZotope.

And if you are using triumph, try this script to split/dither/src a file.  I literally bashed this together using some of the premade scripts and the create render action, so it's probably highly inefficient.  If you fiddle with it a bit more you can also make it export the renders for you, but I didn't want to try and make the action do too much.

Title: Re: audiofile-engineering wave editor
Post by: -sam on February 04, 2015, 03:38:24 PM

The Workflow of Triumph as I understand it.
1. Create a new project
2. Import audio to workspace (the audio is now a layer in your workspace)
3. Apply plugins/fades/etc (drag and drop onto your layer)
4. Place markers (or tracks, or whatever you like)
5. Flatten (there's a setting hidden somewhere that sets the bit depth/sample rate of flattened layers, if you're working with 24 bit it's important to fiddle with this because the default is 16/44.1)
6. Render the workspace/export (this is where you run the script.  With some tinkering you can make that script output FLAC.)

What I haven't figured out is how to append something more descriptive to the outputs files than "Marker 1"

79 + 99 if you want triumph and iZotope.  The new included src/dither is something called GoodHertz.

I did the conversion of the last show I taped in Triumph, and it didn't go too badly.  I still think Wave Editor is the better program, but going forward I think I can make Triumph work.  Which is good, because sooner or later Wave Editor is going to break.
Title: Re: audiofile-engineering wave editor
Post by: macdaddy on February 05, 2015, 12:14:05 AM
That is a lot of money for izotope.

Agree that one day we will break and I will be forced to go with triumph or another program. I am not looking forward to that day, but I suppose I should start getting ready for the inevitable...

Thx for the responses. +t

5. Flatten (there's a setting hidden somewhere that sets the bit depth/sample rate of flattened layers, if you're working with 24 bit it's important to fiddle with this because the default is 16/44.1)

Bumping this as much for my benefit as anyone else's.  In Triumph, the Flatten command will set the bit depth/sample rate of the resulting file to match whatever the audio output is set to.  To change that, go to Triumph > Preferences > Output > Configure

As with OSX  versions very occasionally after I have all my track marks in place I save and they are gone... today I normalized and with out looking at markers saved... they vanished. I closed and reopened but they are all gone!
This has happened before , so I just spend the time to re do hours of work... Grrrrr frustrating

Thanks... that's not the issue.... I never flatten layers. but export from layer 1 window after they are added... I had them all there and once normalized they disappeared  and are nto in  layer one or master layer... Set 1 of the same sohow is fine all track markers  and then normalized just fine. set 2 lost all . This some times happens then I close and reopen an they reappear.

Ok. But the process is the same, I think: try setting the track markers where you want them, and then exporting the labels...

Then do your processing, and when it is all done, and you are ready to cut the file into tracks, load the saved tracks markers (called labels) and they should all show up...

Hmmm
We they were all there I saved and closed  a number of times... then finished the fades normalized  saved and they were gone.
I always just export the markers from the labels panel by selecting all and save selection to...

I'm just bummed that I've got to go back and manually add them all again.
I've been using wave editor for nearly 10 years.. most of the time it works fine... occasionally I loose all my markers.

EDIT: So I just went back and added markers and exported to wav, by Save Selection to...
And I was thinking.... so it seems that I should always do any processing to the file prior to adding marker labels?
