« on: January 19, 2007, 07:39:48 PM »
Has anyone run the M148 line-in to the NJB3?

Curious to know if it's possible?  If so, what cable would you run to the NJB3?  I was thinking female XLR with male  RCA to mini line-in to the NJB3.

I have some shorty xlr>stereo mini I picked up quite a while back.  Think they were under $10.  Radio shack is where I went.

I don't see why you couldn't go 148>jb3.  You would just be using the jb3 a/d.  Give it a go.

Yeah I'm thinking I might give it a go.  Have a buddy in town that has a M148 matched for his AKG 460s.  Need to give him a call and see if I can borrow it sometime.

I've seen Sloan running his V2 > NJB3 and it made me think about this possibility.  I'll give him a call this week and see if he'll let me run in one evening.

Thanks Gordon!  I'll hit Cliff up to see how he hooks them up.

Gordon, do you know if Cliff adjust the gain on the MP2 or the NJB3?

nothing to do with cables but I know that he runs no gain on the jb3 line in.   it's all from the mp2.

edit:  the 148 is a fixed 20db gain so you may would want to use the gain on the jb3 a bit.  thing is you kind of have to set it and forget it.  from what I understand when you raise or lower it (on the jb3) you will hear clicks or something from the jb3.

also, just wanted to add that the MP-2 is +6db at it's lowest setting ....so if the 148 is at +20 then the JB3 probably will need to be run at less than 0db.

I recommend either buying or borrowing someone's SBM-1.  The ADC on the JB3 is not the best.

M148 > SBM-1 > JB3  = Silk!

Yeah, I bet that would sound nice!  I'm just thinking about the tapers and recording gear in my local areas.  Just trying to feel it out with everyone here to see if running the M148 > NJB3 is possible.

Yeah, this is the type of information I'm looking for.  With the M148 set at 20db is it worth trying this set up if the NJB3 adds clicks/pops when adjusting gain?

Try it - from what I've heard - adding gain in the JB3 makes certain beeps more audible - supposedly noise from the harddrive...obviously undesireable - Now this is adding gain - sounds like you might need to reduce gain - so perhaps a different situation noisewise...?

I've found the JB3 can take quite a bit of signal going line in...and the A/D isn't terrible...

I run the RCAs from my mixer - (slightly different situation) but I still have the main fader running nearly full blast...

I understand the M148 is fixed? It seems like it was designed with the level being controlled at the recorder...? Would this be classified as a "hot" output???
