M-audio Fast Track Pro (anyone got one, show me the insides?)
« on: October 27, 2010, 03:50:39 PM »
Has anyone got an M-audio Fast Track Pro?  If so, can you show me the insides?

These are getting cleared out now, aroud $135 each, new B-stock, at a few Ebay sellers.

I'm wondering if they are the "good stuff" or not.  In particular, is the power supply inside better then the lame 5V of the MobilePre.

Their problem was, is, and will always be the drivers.  I have to re-set my drivers on this rascal every month.  Power supply is great.

And re-setting the drivers is a drill.  Reboot; Unistall; Reboot; Install; Reboot and turn box on.  Very finnicky.

I hate mine (I have two).  Wish there was another alternative for an external card that powers small speakers and a headphone at 24b.

Thanks for the reply.  Have you opened it up?  I'm really curious to see what is inside.

By the way, I think this works with Linux.  Maybe it doesn't help you, but there may be a market for these outside of Windows.  Want to sell one?

Scooter, is this an issue mainly for PC use? For a taper only running standalone without ever changing settings, there's no need to worry about the drivers, right?

Yep I use mine in the playback room and in the studio.

I like its performance, great sound, it has a nice headphone jack and multiple inputs.  Just the drivers suck...........

I just picked one up on craigslist if you're still interested in seeing the insides. I just want to make sure it's functional before I open it which may take a day or two but I'm happy to pop the screws out.

No need.  I've already looked inside.  Not very good.  It uses just the 5V usb power supply, so all the opamps are low voltage CMOS types.  It is OK, but not as good as even the UA5 (uses +/-5V).

Thanks anyway,
  Richard
