I've read what I can here and I'm just wondering... with the price of a 4 GB microdrive @ $80 it looks real appealing. I know the down side of the possibility of skipping, and wondering if anyone has actually run these in the field and what the results are. I'm strapped for cash right now and am dying to get some more media for my HDP2. ANY feed back, comments, advice, war stories would be greatly welcome, Kirk

I ran a 4GB Hitachi Microdrive in my Microtrack twice...
The first time I ran @ 24/48 with no problem at all, the 2nd time I pushed my luck with 24/96 and ran into multiple skips, pops, etc.
Not sure what the results would be in the HDP2, but if you're running 24/48 I'd say you should be fine. Given that the HDP2 is a considerably nicer piece of gear than the MT, you may be okay with 24/96.....

one downside to microdrives is that they consume considerbly more power, because they have to spin the little drive. My HD-P2 is arriving today, so obviously, I haven't yet done any side-by-side tests for total battery time, although I hope to test that soon. on the other hand, you can get a 4 gig CF card for approx. $120 (or less, depending on how generic of a brand you go with :) ), which isn't really that much more than the cost of a microdrive.
