Using external mikes with Panasonic FZ2500
«

I was interested in using an AT 8035 and a RE50B as external mikes for a Lumix FZ 2500.
Surprised to see that the decibels are much higher with the internal mike than either of the others.
Fiddled with the settings on the FZ2500 from 0db to -6 db and then +6db.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I'm reasonably happy considering the money.
But coming from a Canon 10D it took a while to figure out how to get the most from all the features.
The advanced owner's manual is something like 340 pages and that is all in English.
Does a good job with video and the still seem sharp.

The RE50b is a dynamic which means its sensitivity is way lower than a normal condenser. Looks like -55 dBSPL. The AT8035 has higher sensitivity, -39 dBSPL. For comparison, an AT4021 is -35 dBSPL.

Thanks, but does that mean they simply won't work with the Panasonic?
Why would the presumably crappier internal mike be more sensitive?

Can't comment specifically about your camera but on my Canon HF R600 the internal mic is considerably more sensitive than my outboard gear.
If you want to be able to achieve the best control and get good clean gain you should consider getting a preamp no matter what kind of microphone you plan on using.

Thanks.
Not that interested in the video.
Most of my work involves a Tascam DR100 Mark III.
I was just hoping I could get some better audio without an extra expenditure.
Appreciate the response.

You do need an external preamp of some sort to bring the level up to that required by the camera.
Have you tried connecting your mics to the DR100 and using its line out to feed the camera?
