Topic: Shock Mounts for Neumann U89???

So far I have not used shock mounts for these mics and didn't think I needed them.  However, I recently recorded a quiet show clamped to a metal balcony rail, and I can hear when people bang on it.  I record from this spot a lot and would rather spend the cash than stress out when people have a good time and express it through contact with the railing.  I would consider spending the cash on the Neumann mounts but they don't seem like a portable solution and may their size may hinder some stereo configurations.  Was looking at the Rode shock mounts but don't know if the sm1 will fit the u89's diameter.  Put an email into the rode peps and waiting to hear back.  According to Neumann the 89 is 46mm in diameter.  Anyone out there have any personal experience with a shock mount that will fit the u89?  Any help would be great, thanks, Ed

I believe the standard shocks that ADK uses for the TLs will work fine with the U89

I owned the TL's for a while and now have U89's...  I agree - the ADK mount should work...  do you not have the Neumann mounts?  they are big suckas but great mounts...

I don't have shock mounts for the mics.  Looks like the rode mic in question is 6mm larger in diameter.  So it seems reasonable that the rode shock would work.  I will take a look at the ADK's.  Thanks for the info, Ed

they are internally shockmounted, I use the small mounts that run about $100 a pop and take up way less room

Yes they are but when you are dealing with a lot of vibration like a metal rail on a balcony and a lot of base the shock mount is a nice extra precaution..  IMO

if shockmounts are a requirement, the adk tl mounts do not work, should have said that earlier. Additionally, I should have used a caveat to say that it really depends on the application of the microphones regarding not using the shockmounts.

Just got a pair of On-Stage Stands shock mounts that work with the 89's.  Got them on Ebay>>> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7355078299&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 >>> The pair cost me 50$ shipped to my door.  They they look and feel solid, they are all metal, and cost about 600$ less than the neumann mounts

I don't see mounts for u89's listed on Peluso's site, but wouldn't be surprised if he makes a set. I'd give him a call,
