adcom gfa-555 left channel went out
« on: November 20, 2005, 11:55:58 PM »
so the left channel on my amp went out during the housewarming party...however nothing at all happened to the amp and it was on but only at reasonable volumes.  lucks and markham can attest to that.  just went dead.  i swapped cables and speakers and found the problem at the amp.  the only thing i can think of that could have been "done" to it was by me when i placed it on it's side since it wouldn't fit in my tv stand, but that was weeks ago and i didn't think solid state would mind being oriented that way.

any thoughts?   there is only one fuse on the back that i can find.

Heat sinks may want airflow with a horizontal placement ?
Let it cool and try if again, horizontal-like.

Check manual for any fuses, speaker protection circuits, etc.
Triple-check cabling !

If not, then your output module (unless dual-mono design) is the likely cause.
If you're good at electronics, stereo amps are easier to fix in that you can swap left and right channel components.

Good luck !
