Any reviews on sound quality?  samples?  I haven't read much about this recorder.  The retail price (new) is now $600.

also, I've read this can be used as an interface/converter.  It is 3 channels, but internally mixes to stereo.  So no 3 channel individual post production.  I STILL have not read anything regarding sound quality... at least other than it is 'outstanding' or 'great'.

Being a frequent user of the FR-2LE I think the DC-R302 has some nice features.
It is definitely not a replacement of the FR-2LE.
Looks to be helpful as shown in the video with a camera but if you were going to use just for audio kind of a waste of $ imo.

Why is that? Phantom power and sd-storage, small unit. Seems like a nice deal, or missing something here?

I just bought one of these recently.  I'm liking it so far.  Especially with the SD MP-2 out in front.  Gonna run this for a little while.  I'd like to get a Tascam DR-70D for a comparison.
