No tape out either. So where do I connect a headphone amp? Pre out is being used for a sub. Splitters on the pre out? Or my turntable has a line out feature. Split it there for headphone amp connection? This connection will be for vinyl only anyway. Thanks

Split the pre-out or use the out on your sub. (switching the crossover to full range)

I would split it at the source, adding the pre in between only adds another set of stages for the signal to travel through and get messed with.  Split at the source which I assume is a disc player, computer or deck of some kind. then you will have a cleaner signal to your headphones......

So I have three choices?:

1. Pre out
2. Sub out
3. Turntable out

With that said, split at the pre out.

Or purchase a new phono pre and spilt at the line out of your new phono-pre before going into your receiver/integrated amp.

Emotiva makes a cool new one called the eps-1...  or there is the new piece of schiit...the mani

Or if you feel really frisky the Parks Audio Budgie

sorry about your wallet....... :P   OOK

The turntable has a built in phono pre. Split there?

So then if you have a built in phono-pre into the turntable and it is outputting a line level signal then that is where I would split.

I ended going with the Pre Out for two reasons:

1. I now have volume control on the receiver remote for headphone listening.
2. The out put on my headphone amp is very low and running thru the pre out gives me all the gain I need.

Yes, it's an extra stage and I have to switch the receiver to the "B" speaker setting and turn the sub down or off, but its worth it to me.

In case anyone is wondering, this is the headphone amp I'm using:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/124485/review-blueberry-audio-emotion-theres-a-new-woody-in-town

It's a nice woody and at the time compared favorably with the Grado but it has a ridiculously low out put for a headphone amp, no matter what cans I'm using. :P

Thanks all for the help.

In the end nothing else matters but what sounds good to your ears. Enjoy your new amp... peace OOK
