Cheap, fast battery box for CA-14's
« on: July 14, 2010, 01:04:05 PM »
Hi all,

I'm looking for a cheap battery box that I can get fast to power my CA-14's. I have an STC-9100, but it's back for repair, so I just need something to power the mics and hold me over for some recordings while it gets fixed.

I looked at sound professionals but didn't see anything.

Or, perhaps alternatively, can someone provide me with a schematic of how to make one? I'm an electrical engineer so should be able to whip something together fairly easily.

I found the attached schematic online. Will this work with the CA-14's? Is it really as simple as a 4.7 k resistor, battery, and a 1u cap?

Thanks

Were the sound pros ones too expensive?  They will definitely work with the CA14. I believe the cheapest one is $39 or so if I remember correctly..

Microphone Madness also makes them. $49.95 for cheapest.  http://microphonemadness.com/categories/battery_filter_module_stereo.html

Interesting. Thanks for the replies guys. I finally found them on sound professionals (note they call them battery module as opposed to battery box). Cheapest I saw was $59.

I think I'll build a quick one tonight. Thanks for the input mshilarious -- I'll probably bump the resistor and cap values up a bit depending on what I can dig up here at the office...

I build a cheap battery box for $29.00 with a build time of 1 week. Anyway if you want to do it your self use a 10k + 10uf cap... I build all my battery boxes that way.

Just curious Chris, with your mics, what voltage that (10k) gives you at the capsule?
