My first JB3 Stealth Recording
« on: March 26, 2004, 04:32:00 PM »
So I taped Dream Theater last night with the JB3.. first time using it. It worked wonderfully... the recording is really bassy, but I think it turned out pretty well given me low-end mics. Take a look at STG.. I posted a sample, and soon the show will be fully seeded. Thanks to all who convinced me to go JB3 instead of MD. Peace.

+T on the first time out, and +T in 12 for Dream Theater.

Who opened?  Last time I saw them, the Dregs opened.  Friend of mines a real DT freak.  Lemme know if this is going up someone, or maybe we can do a B&P on the side...

Cool, although...yeah, the rolloff was set too low...95Hz...i've never used that, i tend to stick with 160Hz.

the easiest way to clean up the bass is to get cardiods, especially in big indoor veues.  Hypers are even better.  Stacking is another story

Yeah, my cheapo SP omnis have practically bit the dust. I had to re-solder the wires inside the capsule, so it's all a little sketchy. I'll probably go with the CMC-2 or CMC-4 setup, and *maybe* consider the phantom power option... my budget is very low though.

as for this DT show, I'll probably get it seeding again tomorrow if I can get it sorted out and if I have enough time. I can never seed effectively... even in superseed mode, i still have really shitty upload speeds of like 3k/s..

I have SP-CMC-4 cardioid mics and SP-SPSB-1 preamp with single stereo level control. They work fantastic and did not cost me an arm and a leg.  8)

at831 and at853 are both good mini mics for the money...and 160 on the bass rolloff is super high..you'll want to go with around 95 or 107 typically with either of those mics i'd say.
