Sonosax M2 ---- DAV Broadhurst Gardens BG-1
« on: June 04, 2009, 12:12:46 PM »
I already heard that the D.A.V.-BG1 is a very good preamp, and read the Sonosax-M2 specs, and am kinda wondering if the Sonosax can compete with the DAV in terms of quality? The M2 is more portable with battery powering and it is smaller, that are its pluses, does anyone use it, and what are your opinions about it?

Thanks!

Alot of people use the Sonosax SX-M2 because of its size and easily powered w/ batteries. The DAV is a lesser used preamp in our taping circles, and possibly because of it weird size, its not used by us a whole lot...

Bean's right, it is a form factor for field taping that makes the sonosax a big gun with this crowd... I use them both, and in terms of sound, I prefer the DAV BG1.  I tape mostly classical and jazz.  But the sonosax gives a good clean gain structure, so it is a fine piece, too.  So are the Grace portable pre's that are popular with the taper crowd.  Hey, how about Sound Devices???  There's lots of great gear out there at really reasonable prices, considering they'll last for many years if cared for, and the technology really doesn't change very quickly, like recorders and cameras do.
