ISO: Free (or dirt cheap) and very simple video editer

OK.  I'm not looking to edit anything major, just home movies.  My dad gave me his old Sony DVDR Video Camera, and once I "finalize" the video, I can copy the Video_TS folder to my PC (POS Windows box).  Is there something, easy and  cheap, that I can use to add chapters and intros, etc???  I was wondering if there was something similar to CDWave out there for DVD Videos???

I'm VERY much interested in something where I can save small segment in a format I can post on YouTube for the GrandParents...

I'm a TOTAL video noob, and don't feel like reading a crap-load of BS to find out something stupid...  Search didn't give me exactly what I wanted, everyone is looking to edit multi-cam w/ xxx Source...  I just want something moronic...  Hand-holding would be very much appreciated!

There are a lot of free tools out there than can do what you need, but they're not easy to use. I would recommend taking a look at VideoReDo TV Suite. It allows you to chop up your DVDs into smaller files as well as re-author (add chapter points etc.) existing DVDs from your camera.

You can download a fully functional 30 day trial from here: http://www.videoredo.com/en/Compare.htm

They've even got an active forum where you can ask questions.

If you're happy with the product you can buy a product key ($75) to unlock the software.

Dunno if Avid's Free DV still works -- definitely not HD!
