Title: GP DMIC 20 question
Post by: kindms on March 16, 2017, 07:59:56 AM
do any of our local wizards know if its possible to somehow mod the pre to bypass the dac or upgrade the dac to 24/48 ?

ran across some older 414 and 461 > DMIC recordings that smoke and was wondering about taking it out again. Yes i know i can run  hotter on 16/48 but was curious

No analogue preamp actually has enough dynamic range for more than 20bit anyway.

Using a 24bit bit bucket will preserve all 20 bits with this unit.

I ran 481>DMIC20 from 1999->2003 when I got a V3 and I did pull some smokers with that combo! If the DIP Switches for gain weren't such a PITA it would be a great lil Pre/ADC Combo for a small 16bit rig! Ive seen people mod the dip switches with some gain knobs on the top of the unit! Always wanted to try that when I had mine back then, jus5t to avoid the dip switches lol ;D

And as far as I know, you CANNOT bypass the ADC stage, unless you mod the inside chips or something like that most likely!
