D-Cell sled runtime for Sony D100/M1
« on: January 25, 2004, 06:08:22 AM »
few months ago, i built a 4 D-cell sled to run my D100/M1, and here's my prelim result.

few notes first:

-Duracell Coppertop used;
-recording time only (no playback, no fastforward, no rewind);
-no backlight during recording;
-no analog patch outs;
-no digital patch outs.

the result is......... 29.5 Hours.  i recorded a show tonight, and i finally noticed one bar down on the D100's meter.

That meshes with similar results I've gotten in the past.  One of the reasons I switched to rechargables, though, is I've had especially poor luck with alkalines.  A D-cell 4-pack I picked up only gave me about 2 hours before they croaked.  WTF!  Just a fluke on the bad set, really, but also didn't feel like continuing to throw batts away.  At any rate, if you need to power that sucker for a looooooooong time, that's one way to do it.

So the D100/M1 actually display a battery bar reading using an external sled? Is this using the power connector for the wall wart or some sort of connection through the battery compartment? My D8 just behaves as if it's plugged into the wall - no battery readout or anything...
