Title: ISO Bag for mic stands
Post by: vanark on December 26, 2019, 11:19:46 PM
My wife and I swap cars fairly frequently and switching my gear from one car to the other is fine except for the mic stands and extension poles. I need a bag for the stands and poles so I can just grab the bag and toss it in the other car with my cables bag. I usually keep these in the car so I have a selection when I get to a show. Plus, less to pack.

Anyway have a storage bag just for the car trunk? Or some other idea?

DigiGal recommended this to me years ago, and it is perfect for my Manfrotto 1004BAC.  The outer pocket is good for adapters and safety cables.

Along with the main stand, it can also fit my 099b extension pole and long mic bar, each of which are in one of these sleeves so nothing gets scratched during transport:

Sarge cut the legs off of some old pants, denims, and made me some matching bags for me for my shorter stands.  I also use the sacks that the folding aluminum chairs are typically sold in for my longer stands.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking more about one bag for all the stands. It really is for just the trunk and being able to transfer them from one car to the other easily.

The lacrosse bag does make me wonder if there is an athletic gear bag that is a little larger but still long enough for the stands.

Defensive players use longer sticks.  Look for a defender's stick bag.

Depending on how the stands fold up, a baseball bat bag might work:

What about travel golf bags?  Hard or soft shell.  I have used them before for air travel with a stand.  Maybe a little bigger than most people want but you can fit a ton of stuff in them.  When traveling, I pack other items in them (clothes, etc.).  And with travel (sorry for deviating from the OP), sometimes they can ding you for "large items" that aren't standard (golf clubs, skis, etc.).  I had to argue with Southwest when traveling with my stand alone one time.  Throw it in a golf bag and it flies free on SW.

Manfrotto LBAG110. Nice and sturdy with a broad strap so it doesn’t dig into your shoulder. Ample room for a stand, several even, with lots of accessories. The zipper goes down pretty far, so that you can reach smaller stuff in the bottom easily, but not so far down that those things fall out. I have trudged many, many miles with this bag...

They have a smaller version as well, if you use a smaller stand.

Definitely some great ideas! Thinking about some kind of duffel bag. This one is 45" and was a related items link on the page for one of the other bags someone suggested.

Or this one.

Going to need to measure the back area of the car to see how wide it can be. Also might make a trip to the job lot store to see what they have.

You could about stuff Gordon Wilson in that thing.

I don't know if you could find anything cheaper than that duffel, but check the local army surplus store if you got one nearby.

I'm in the same boat. I had a bag that was from an oversized  bag chair like this one that worked great for a few years till it finally gave out this summer.

12x12x45 inches... I'm going to use it to carry around 3.5 feet of LPs.

That's awesome, but DJ's usually show up with a couple of thumb drives now...

Certainly not the least expensive, Versa-Flex bags have held up very well for me.

I've never used these bags for stands but I have a couple different Gator brand bags (guitar case, 2 space rack case and a gadget case) and they have held up well over the years. These come in several different sizes for speaker stands or mic stands.

I really like this bag from On Stage Stands:
https://on-stage.com/products/view/11292/117327

It lays flatter than a lot of other bags which is nice for me when I stack gear. It also has several zipper pockets inside for adapters or other small gear. I usually have it stuffed with a Manfrotto stand, music stand, and 3 normal mic stands and it has held up really well.

I need a bag that is 40" long. Found a really cheap bag on Amazon that seems to fit the bill.

Lowel (photo/film lighting mftr) makes a large Litebag that is 40" long. I used one for years carrying my light stands on photo shoots till it was too beat up to stitch back  together. It held three full size stands and assorted other stuff. Minimal padding so it had a bit of structure but was still lightweight. It isn't cheap but it isn't spendy either.

When mine wore out I replaced it with a Portabrace bag meant for a 40" slider. It's better built and carries more but it weighs and costs more too...

For jobs where small stands are enough I use a Phottix tripod bag I got on sale at B&H. I believe there's a larger version that is 40" long.
