Wonder if someone can help the luddite in me sort out a issue........

I've recorded Ladytron last night (with my new Edirol R-09HR) in Manchester @ 48k/24bit and need assistance to dither and then burn to enable playback on a regular cd player.

I've used the help application and struggling a little if I'm honest.

I need, in simple terms, some info how to dither down and then resample to (I believe - this is all new to me) to 44.1/16.

Any assistance greatfully appreciated.

try highlighting it, then exporting.  you should be prompted before the export to choose the format.  choose 16 bit/44.1

if you are not prompted, set your Export preferences to export to wav 16/44.1

(kind of a stab in the dark from me, but thats how it works on all the daw's i used.)

Adobe Audition's a bit funky in the way you resample / dither.  It's not quite as easy as Save As and selecting the file format, but it isn't hard, either.

Like so (Audition will perform the operations in the proper sequence, i.e. resample first, dither second):

• Main Menu:  Edit | Convert Sample Type
• Set Channels to Stereo (should be already)
• Set Sample Rate to 44100
• Tick the Pre/Post Filter checkbox
• Set the Pre/Post Filter slider to the desired quality
• Set Resolution to 16-bit
• Tick the Enable Dithering checkbox
• Set Dither Depth to 1
• Set p.d.f. to Triangular (or whichever option you prefer)
• Set Noise Shaping to No Noise Shaping (or whichever option you prefer)

When it's done, save the file:

• File | Save As
• Specify location and filename
• Save

There is also an excellent standalone dither/resample program(free), if you dont want to use audacity native dither.

A battle I have waged into the wee-hours.  One level of that feature I never liked.  The 999 seemed to cause the mids and highs to shine through too much when compared to original 24 bit recording.  The happy medium always seemed to be around 375-450.  I first tried r8brain for dithering too.  Results were more accurate than Adobe's, but still wasn't satisfied.   

Finally gave up recording 24/48 and record strictly 24/44.1.  Got me closer to the tonal quality of my original 24 bit recording.  Triangular/No Shaping was good enough.  I'm happy with that decision.
