Tascam HD-P2 questions
« on: May 19, 2009, 04:02:18 PM »
Will it record to an 8g cf card (I've heard it can and that it can't).

How do you get the latest update to load onto the unit.  i downloaded it from www.tascam.com, but can't seem to get it to upload.  Does it need to be un-compressed or something first?

Thanks much!

I'm pretty sure you just load the firmware on the cf card and stick it in the deck. UNzip the folder that holds the firmware update. Copy the .BIN file on to your cf card. Stick it in the deck and turn on.

for clarification about the CF card, as mentioned above, the deck will record to many 8gb CF cards with absolutely no problems.
You can also record to a larger card, but the deck will completely freeze up as soon as 8gb of data are written to the card.  Therefore, it's a waste of money to buy anything larger than a 8 gb card (like a 16 or 32gb card), as the deck can only write to 8gb and everything more than that will never be able to be used.  However, before 8gb is written to the card, a larger card will work and function perfectly in the deck.  all that said, don't bother with anything larger than 8gb.  I've used Sandisk Ultra II card, Kingston cards, and PQI cards, all with no problems.

I too have never had a problem with an 8gb card.

As for updating the firmware. On the website link you supplied I went to the manual, page 20: (I've highlighted the good stuff...)

From time to time new software may be released for
the HD-P2. To update the HD-P2 software you will
copy the update file (e.g. UPDATE_1_1.BIN) to a CF
card and insert it into the HD-P2. You can also copy
the update file to the HD-P2 card while the system is
docked to a host computer over FireWire.
Whenever the HD-P2 detects an update file on an
inserted media (that is a different version from what
is currently installed), it will display the Software
Update screen.
This screen shows the current version
of software and the version of software contained in
the update file.
The HD-P2 stores two software versions in non-volatile
flash memory. There is the default system version,
which came from the factory and cannot be changed,
and there is the current user version. When updating
software it replaces the user version. If there is a
problem with the update, you can always boot up the
HD-P2 using the default system version by holding
the STOP key and the PROJECT key while powering up.
Once completed, the software update file is automatically
deleted from the media.
