^^the funny thing is that i actually saw ben twerking while wearing the $t3lth hat at an avant garde jazz gig..  it was a killer set all your favorite miley tunes performed by a trio of stand-up  bass players.....

Yes, prepare to feel (and look) like a complete and utter tool on your first outing. But trust me,  the pain and embarassment eases with each use thereafter. I now only feel a slight sting when donning the Kangol. And its worth it.

I'm actually fortunate in that the Kangol doesn't look _that_ stupid on me.  I've actually been told that it suits me (I guess it helps that I'm wearing it the "right way" around) but it can be a little suspect at hard-rock shows but I don't care.  :)

I don't think I'll wear mine again until I'm 60 or so. I can't go through that again  :yikes:

I had to resort to a hat after I cut my hair, and I cut my hair to get a desk job, and never got the desk job.
A hat lets you get a lot higher up and make a clearer tape than collar-mounting, or even croakie mounting, and once you actually MAKE a few of those tapes its hard to go back to more obstructed microphones.

But I hate the hat.

I guess the only thing that seems to make the hat OK, is that there are always, ALWAYS people with more hair and dumber hats at every show and they certainly aren't even taping. But their hats are worse than yours.

Recently, at a Dr Dog show I noticed that there were more guys on stage with hats than in the audience.
this is definitely not normal

Think of it as birth control that you wear on your big head.

Has no one tried the Ventair Spacecap?

Caps wouldn't be as far forward, but more fashionable, and less likely for security to pick you out of a crowd.

I got my Nyquist omni sound hat from a friend a little over 20 years ago. He had a friend who was an out of work electrical contractor who made these sound hats. They were an ordinary baseball hat with grommets pressed/sewn into the temples. The omni capsules were permanently sealed into the hat with some sort of industrial silicone glue. It had an external battery box that ran off a single 9 volt battery that stepped up the voltage from mic to line level and worked great for many years. Something happened to mine about 10 years ago and it's no longer working. It might be something in the battery box, I don't know.

Anyway, the point is that one can make a sound hat themselves out of most any hat. The Nyquist hat had black wind screens over the capsules, flush with the underside of the fabric that covered the hat. It was Very stealthy and worked every time.
I have a pic but it's too large a file size to upload here.

Lol the Kangol and the sound pro hat look a little ridiculous, although my vote is for the soundpros hat if you have hair like that.  8)

Binaural in-ear mics anyone? Or just clipped mics on your pockets (while wearing two pocket shirts)?

Higher is better, less mass in between the mics and the sound source.

It works, but the problem is then you are really crushing the mics right against your sweaty head (at least, the only way I've seen one used).
