DAT > PC transfer
« on: April 10, 2004, 03:15:27 PM »
Hello,
I would like to transfer some of my dat tapes to my computer.
I'm using :
- Sony TCD-D8
- Sony POC-DA12 P cable
- Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun souncard (which has optical input and ouput)
- Soundforge 6.0 software

I'm totally unable to make decent transfers...

DAT > PC :
the transfer is horrible... a lot of diginoises, clicks, pops ...

PC > DAT :
the transfer is far better than the DAT > PC one but there are some audible noises here and there.

I called the Terratec support and they said to me that I had to deactivate the soundcard that is integrated to my motherboard.
I think I've done that correctly (deactivation done in the bios of my computer).
Unfortunately, this did not solve any problem...
(I may add that I've set Soundforge to 44.1kHz that is to say the same frequency as what I want to transfer)

Here you will find two samples of what my transfers sound like (this is the same song !):
[1] DAT > PC using the optical out of the Sony cable and the optical in of the soundcard.

[2] DAT > PC using the line out of the D8 and the line in of the soundcard

I've tried to increase the buffers in Soundforge, disconnect my ethernet cable but the problem is still here.

Let me know what you think,
Thanks !
